Brakes V brake question

I bought the adapter to get a V brake on my beach cruiser, but the top of the V brake arms are not tall enough for the cable to clear the tire -- so it rubs. The pads are bottomed out, so no more room to move the whole thing up so I can get clearance.

Can anyone recommend a set of V brakes that are tall enough to clear an over-sized beach cruiser tire?
