The power of the internet ...

This is VERY interesting! See who your neighbors are. After you type in
your address, it pinpoints all the people close to your home that have
been convicted of ANY felonies. Then you just click on the red
pins/balloons on the map and it gives you the offenders name, age, and
felony offense. Better to know than not.

Are you sure it's accurate? I'm no bleeding heart, but they have pins where there are no houses, and wrong names and such.

Nope Pablo, don't know if it's accurate or even up to date. But it is definately interesting.

    From the website:

"Where do we get our information?

We get our information from almost everywhere. We use traditional databases available online, many free & public repositories that are not available online, and we cross-reference all of it against a number of very expensive sources that we purchase on an almost weekly basis from insiders we know in industry sectors we can't talk about publicly because they could be fired or prosecuted just for giving us the private, personal, secure information that makes your life secure and livable."

I think it may be bogus. If you reenter the same address it will show a completely different set of locations and other info.

It's a hoax. Just read the above statement, and it should be obvious.
If that's not enough, then do multiple searches around your area and you'll find that you can never duplicate the search results. Some of the convictions are fake too! Pretty convincing looking until you read closely.

It is an interesting site. My neighborhood had relatively few red flags, but they were all creepy crimes. That's kinda disturbing.

We had one guy, a few years back, who stabbed his wife to death and then threw himself in the river. And sure enough, there was a red flag right in the middle of the river. But the label gave someone else entirely. Strange world.

I am just a bit suspicious, though, about anyone who claims to have privileged information but is giving it out as a "public service". If their sources can be fined or prosecuted for disseminating this, then that would seem like a pretty good incentive to keep quiet.

I'm still willing to believe that these folks are trying to do a good thing. But I do suspect that their info is not perfectly accurate and complete.

This site is funny - this is what you get when you click on the "remove your name" link!

    "Remove Your Name

I’m sorry if you believe a name has been added to our database in error, but our data for this area shows on cross-check as being perfectly current. If a name needs to be removed, it will happen on its own, and there is nothing you can do about it. There are no mistakes in this site, and if you think there is, you’re probably the exact sort of criminal we all need to beware of.

Once a con, always a con, and we’re not about to let you pull a con-job over on us or your neighbors, no matter how strongly worded the letter from your attorney may be. We have volunteer attorneys on retainer, as well as pre-paid legal services, so as far as we’re concerned, your threats are a non-issue."

No apology needed. The site does look very convincing at first. But once you start to read closely, the warning flags go up, then you read more and start laughing.

I also dabble in radio controlled hobbies (hence the name arcee) and this site was often taken seriously by some people on first glance.

Can I shut this site down?

No you can’t. We have already paid our $19 per month for prepaid legal services, so if you try to do it, we’ve already got a handful of the lowest paid attorneys in the world waiting in the wings to fight you. They’re still good and this is just the sort of legal battle that could make them famous and help them escape the basement of legal respect and income. No, you can’t shut us down.

    great site haha

We had a female paeditrician beaten to death in the UK because some mindless chav idiot couldnt distinguish the difference between doctor specialising in the treatment of children and sicko specialising in the abuse of same...

This sort of site is so far from funny. There are idiots out there who would take it seriously and people could get hurt, or worse. I dont agree with internet censorship or any censorship, but idiots like the people who run this - I cant think of a punishment severe enough...

what is the purpose of such a site? there are no houses where they say, it's almost like they want to make people uneasy in their own neighborhood, scary to think people could take this info to heart.

    from the FAQ's section

    Question:
Can I help by suggesting someone who needs to be listed?

    Answer:
Yes you can! Just use our contact page, and we’ll get them added in a hot hurry. Usually we verify it, but usually we don’t have the needed time or resources to insure it is valid. Please use this tool with honesty and integrity.

so you can have them add someone's name, if you just had a grudge against someone, that sounds like a legal nightmare!
