What's the threading on the screws that cover the engine sprocket?

OK, so I assume you have to take that little pice of metal off the engine that covers the sprocket to put the chain on. What is the threading on those screws? the stock screws have gotten all mangled and getting them out with a screwdriver is no good, so I'm going to get a screw extractor to take them out, but what is the threading for when I want to put new ones in?
