I've been checking the same sites for news for quite some time now...

    http://news.google.com - for mainstream media
    http://www.digg.com - for popular media
    http://www.reddit.com - similar to Digg
    http://www.slashdot.org - news for nerds

As for TV, The Daily Show & Colbert Report are about it. Tho, I haven't been able to watch those shows for quite some time because I was letting a chick borrow my MythTV PVR. Got it back recently, but I just haven't set it up yet. Need to do that soon. Perhaps you guys have some decent news programs worth recording?? :helmet:

As for mainstream news anchors.. Keith Olbermann is the only one I care for. He's critical in a rational way, IMHO, unlike O'Reilly.

    Hmm... that's pretty vague, no?

keith olberman is as biased towards the left as Glenn Beck is towards the right. Every time I watch Maddow or Olberman all they do is automatically talk s h i t and downplay in a sarcastic way anything that is anti-obama or pro-Bush. That is really one of my biggest problems with leftist media.

The fact that you consider colbert or stewart real news says a lot about you spanky. It is satire and therefore by definition distorted.

I listen to talk radio... mostly Rush Limbaugh. Now, sapnky before you talk about how hypocritical I am because of how "right wing" Rush is read this...

Everything Rush Limbaugh has ever said on his show is available in transcript form on his website. He has been documented (by an impartial third party) to be 98% accurate in everything he has ever said, quoted, or predicted. To my knowledge no journalist, or anybody else in the media has ever been so correct so often.... including O'Reily.

I have a question for you spanky... if the leftist media like olberman is such a great source for news and O'Reily sucks so much, how come O'reily gets more ratings than everybody else in his time slot combined???

I have watched olberman and maddow, grew up on larry king, and used to watch the today show every morning until right after 9/11.

have you ever actually listened to Rush Limbaugh???

In fact I used to hate listening to him, my Mom taped Rush every morning until I was in junior high. I used to get nausea at the sound of his voice.... until I went to collage. Then one day I just tuned in to hear what all the critics were talking about and he was speaking the truth. Everything he said was confirmed by what I was learning in economics, political science, and multinational business finance classes

if you get your news from google or yahoo... it is usually supplied by the Associated Press... a heavily influenced outlet that gets their talking points from the Obama adm. That is why they always try to spin unemployment and jobless claims to be positive. They say things like jobless claims are beginning to slow down. Instead of jobless claims still soar.

I've never understood how people can say the AP is liberal.

And yes, it is quite possible to learn everything going on in the "real news" by watching Colbert and Jon Stewart. They highlight the most absurd **** and go over why it's so absurd. Jon Stewart has some crazy in-depth interviews where they drill people with REAL questions, which is something news anchors/reporters DO NOT do nowadays. Colbert's whole character is a parody of O'Reilly, which makes it so damm hilarious. He's just so positively cocky, always remains louder than his guest, and typically ends the show with a question that causes the guest to answer in a form like this... "Wow, I've never thought of that before", "You're absolutely right", etc. The Daily Show is most definitely more educational than Colbert, but both of them add insult to injury, where injury is the mainstream media in general.

As for Olbermann... I've definitely seen him rip into Obama a couple times, and I've barely watched the show, honestly. NBC, and his show in particular, seem to be the only MSM cable network that I'll watch. CNN is just plain retarded and FOX just downright lies.

you say this like I have never watched the colbert report or the daily show... before the election of obama I used to watch both all the time. The problem with those two though is that it is sometimes hard to differentiate between real news and satire.

you didnt answer my question on Rush.... you should at least listen to him for a couple of days. Ill bet money you start listening to him.

wanna take the bet??? I will give you $20 if you actually listen to him and dont like it.... Paypal or Cash.

To verify you actually listened to him tell me what he talked about and why you didn't like it.

I've heard him plenty of times in the past, and while I don't remember the specifics... he's a crude hypocrite, similar to O'Reilly. The reason that people enjoy Stewart and Colbert is because they are truly humble, ask meaningful questions, and respect their guests. Colbert just has an odd way about it, but you can tell he's humble behind his O'Reilly mask.

I just checked out his website and was planning to listen in to some of his archived recordings... but you've got to be a member to do that. How open of him. Just as I was thinking how obscene it is to charge people to listen to archived shows when he gets money from advertisers... I see this empty box (I use AdBlock Plus) with the words "OBSCENE PROFIT CENTER" right above it. Too funny.

yeah he is definitely crude sometimes... also sexist. If there is a picture of the stereotypical capital pig smoking a cigar it would be Rush Limbaugh. That is besides the point though... once you listen to him for a while you will see that he has very sophisticated sense of humor, an impeccable memory, and an astonishing knowledge of American history and Politics. He is most definitely not a hypocrite though... if you are going to make accusations you know you need proof here. He isn't civil to all his guests but some of his guests call with the sole intention of harassing him... we know how you act when we harass you, I think you would do the same.

Yes you do have to have preferred access to view most of his site... but he is a capitalist trying to make money. Most sites charge for preferred access... this should be nothing new to you.

You don't need his archives though... just listen to him free on the am radio between 9 am and 12 noon. You need to listen for about a week, I promise you wont want to listen to anything else.

We share a lot of the same views about governments role in society... I think you would like it.

i get all my news from you guys! oh, and the one guy down the hall at the office who spends his day surfing the web for pointless cr@P.

I used to listen to morning radio, years ago Don Imus. Quite liked him. I even liked Rush's opinions, but I don't want to hear the discussion, just the headline. I guess that is why I like the Daily Show and Colbert. Headline - Funny quip or awkward silence - facial expression. repeat.

Keep up the good work, fellas

just a little too full of himself

Somebody who talks about how drugs are bad and then gets hooked on oxycontin is a hypocrite. This same oxycontin-head that tells Repubs to take their children out of school, because the Prez is gonna indoctrinate their children is a F@#KHEAD. This same oxycontin-head that tells Repubs to vote for Hillary, because he sees Obama as the greatest threat to Repubs remaining in the White House is a F@#KHEAD. This same oxycontin-head that said he HOPES Obama's policies will fail is far greater than just a F@#KHEAD... he's the MOTHER F@#KHEAD.

You don't see too many liberal hypocrites, because they don't go around telling people what to do and how to live. Did you know that Rush got caught with some viagra when he wasn't divorced... yet he always tells people that pre-marital sex is bad and abstinence is good! HYPOCRITE! There is nothing MORE that I hate than somebody who tries to spread the word of Jesus, yet they cannot follow it themselves. I do believe that Jesus is the one that coined the term 'hypocrite', just FYI.

Rush is FULL of hate. Stewart and Colbert are not. Good -vs- Evil, my friend. You decide!!

Rush isn't full of hate... he may be full of himself but not hate. What you say is hate is actually the truth... documented correct over 98% of the time. Hate is what is put on him by the left like olberman and maddow.

He never said he wanted Obama to fail... He said he wanted Obama's policies to fail. A statement wich, by your own admissions, you gagree with. Don't be too hypocritical. And he doesn't see Obama as a threat to the Republican party, he really doesn't care for the republican party if you listen to him (he sees them as weak and cowardly for the most part). He sees Obama as the greatest threat to the republic and democracy.

He doesn't really see himself as a republican... he sees himself as a conservative first and foremost. He most certainly does not consider himself the head of the republican party... that is a title the left media gave him (who also loathe him).

The oxy-contin was presciribed to him legally... then after he got hooked they stopped prescibing it to him so he had to obtain it illegally to avoid the heavy opium withdraws. I know plenty of people this has happened to that are not hypocrates. Do you know why he had the OC prescription? He is almost completely deaf in both ears.... he got the prescription after he had the implants put in his ears.... totally legitamate.

I have never heard him advocate abstinance.

You sound like you let olberman shape your opinion of Rush for you. All the things you have said sound like you heard them on a news show or read it on the internet. You should hear these things for yourself before you pass judgement.

Almost all liberals are hypocrates. They advocate anti-hate propaganda but are continuously the most hatefull people in our midst.... especially towards conservative Christians. At this point I think I would reather have hillary so I wish that would have worked...

By the way... democrats did the same thing w/ mccain. They voted for McCain so that Huckabee or Ron Paul didn't make it to the election. Why do think weak ***, moderate McCain was elected as the repulblican candidate.

I'm listening to Rush right now. The d00d is FULL OF HATE.

"Community service is the first step toward fascism", apparently. And "[Obama] should resign immediately... for his treasonous speech the other night".

good, happy to hear you are listening. Keep listening for a week. Open line Fridays dont really count.

If you listen for a week and still have the same opinions I will send you $20 in whatever for you want.

There is nothing he said that was factual. It was ALL opinion.

Right... that's what I said he said.

WHAT?!? I said I want his policies to fail? YOU LIE!

HAH.. Ok. That's why he kept referring to the Republican party as "us" and their movement to destroy Obama.

I've personally got nothing with drug users whatsoever. If someone wants to get hooked on some pain medication and continue their sickness, so be it. It's not my place to judge. Likewise, if I were against drugs... I wouldn't be telling other people what they should be doing. I'd say something like, "Personally, I don't think drugs are helpful in anyway, tho, I do like to puff on the reefer from time to time and having a couple brewskis nearly everyday. I've tried other drugs before, and they're harmful for these reasons..."

I have never even heard Olbermann for a total of the entire length of one of his shows. I've passed by the TV when he's been on and agreed that he is fairly reasonable. I don't watch TV whatsoever because of commercials alone.

I could list you dozens and dozens of hypocritical Republicans. How many Democrats could you do that for? Democrats don't go around pushing their religion on people. My biggest problem with Democrats is that they have no spine to call Republicans out on their lies.

No they did not. That is a boldfaced lie. No Democrat is smart enough to plan something like that. Who do you think propagated that plan? I'd never heard it before.
