The prevailing and ever increasing mentality in this country is that it's a bottomless bucket of wealth and, fueled by greed and envy, too many people have no qualms in insisting p********n's steal from others so they might "get theirs". In other words, the sense of entitlement is off the charts.

We are now broke, the golden goose is slain and we are screwed.

There are only two things that can possibly save this country at this point:

    1. A reincarnated Teddy Roosevelt
    2. A civil war.
    3. Or both.

    Personally, I'm up for either.

Not if the health care abuse bill passes. The tax us to DEATH cap and tax bill will kick in and a whole bunch of other regulatory garbage, big companies used to fight this junk, but NOW they no benefit from it.....we are well and truly screwed from all ends. People are so blind.

There is HOPE and this is the HOPE the country can survive three more years of this abuse.

Funny thing, the clown actually thinks he is doing well. That is a laugher!!

Times are looking tough to be sure but this country can survive. The founders were brilliant and gave us the tools to rebel without bloodshed, it's called political dissent and elections. The real power doesn't reside in the Presidency but the Congress and the total House is up for election every two years and 1/3 of the Senate. People are waking up on a massive scale, I'll be at a political protest this evening, alongside a major thoroughfare, just for that purpose. Don't give up.

    Zev0,

I like Teddy Roosevelt also but as painful as it was for me to accept, he was America's first Progressive President. Broke my heart but facts are facts. One may not violate the spirit and word of the Constitution, regardless of how pure one believes their motives to be. Sorry.

I don't see the choice I would pick: "Yes, the USA will recover, but it will take a while....longer than it should have....in spite of the government, not because of it"

The only thing we have is Today. Yesterday is gone, and the only thing we know for sure about Tomorrow is that it won't be the same as Yesterday or Today.

By the way, I'm curious as to which days you consider "The good old days"? The days when you were in your 20's? Probly won't happen again.

Where is it written that just because we move forward technologically we must lose the lessons and values of our forebears.

We have been bankrupted and betrayed by our own. Government run schools steep children in lib****ism while failing to teach them to read and write. Colleges and universities specialize in teaching the wonders of socialism. The media of today are little more than propaganda tools for those that would destroy our way of life. The people have no way of learning how their country is being destroyed - in fact their schools and the media urge them to cheer for the destruction.

There are two tipping points left. 2010 will see a voter revolt. Tipping point number one will be the election. If the D***crats steal the election through massive voter fraud the people just might rise up - but not enough. Tipping point number two will be the supreme court. If the 2010 election is stolen and the supreme court fails to reign in the power of the Federal government there is just a chance that some states may rise up either through a constitutional convention or through leaving the union.

Let's hope it does not get to that but only through major bottom to top changes in how this country works does it have a chance. Without these changes the best we can hope for is a delay of the inevitable collapse of our country into either a third world banana republic or a smaller banana republic adjoining a handful of free and independent states.

•At the state level - replacement of the socialist school monopoly with a voucher system so parents have a voice in what their kids are taught.
•End tenure at schools and universities and let parents vote with with their dollars. Unpopular teachers won't attract students and will be replaced.
•At the state level deunionizing public employees to return state and local governments to the people. A return to by, of, and for the people - instead of by, of, and for the unions. They have bankrupted the states.
•At the federal level it begins with a full restoration of the 10th Amendment as it was written and intended by the founding fathers. That limits the reach of the federal government to about 10% of what it is today.
•At the federal level it also means a balanced budget amendment and an amendment restricting congress' power to tax.

    **** used to depoliticalize

    not politics, but history.

i like to think there are better days ahead, but i don't believe it. i didn't vote...i've had way too much of "divide & confuse" and my head hurts.

peeps used to come here for the chance to earn happyness. now peeps come here to loot the treasury, and the emperor just keeps handing out free bread that's not really free...the melting pot isn't melting anything anymore...at every level we're all about ourselves...we're in this mess because noone will work together...not the rich, not the poor, noone. wealth, religion, race, gender, etc...labels...common-ground is unimportant, being "best" is all that matters.

shoot, we can't even get a few hundred socially-different MB'ers on the same page, and we have what i consider to be something in common WORTH working together for...phooey.

there will be no 2nd "american revolution"...that implies unity and organization, common goals, personal sacrifice. btw-be wary of a "civil war" by definition because you might not be too happy with the winners...imo, there will eventually be widespread violence...but we have allowed far too many self-avowed enemies inside our gates to think we'll ever see the "good old" days again.

    and history marches on.

i'm just waiting for the weather to break & let me get over the mountains...
all i wanna do is ride the long-road and forget some stuff :)

the good old days were to me

the good old days were to me
    when

all that wanted to work could find a decent job with a retirement check someday

free money for the undeserving was not handed out like candy

most everyone working could buy at least a simple home
without it costing them an arm and a leg

we did not go around the world kissing up to other countries
    regarding our past sins
    oh me
if we are that bad -- they also do not need any more of our free money
handed out to much of the world it seems
even to some countries that say straight out -- they don't like us !!!!!

what the heck are we doing ???

I believe it's a certainty, but since I know neither the day or the hour, I'll do the best I can with what's here now.

I do not see the option to vote as I would, so I didn't vote. My opinion is that the America of the ideal, the constitutional republic of free citizens governing themselves, is dead. Finally and irrevocably dead. It will not return, IMO.

We have only ourselves too blame - blaming "government" is merely a pathetic self justification for the choices we made that led our society to this point. Nor do I think it possible to restore that republic, for we have willingly embraced the division of our society in the interests of "multi-culturalism" so long that the necessary social trust and community of social values no longer exists. Trust is a delicate thing, and once shattered very hard to restore, if not impossible in an environment where significant numbers reject its value and work to prevent its restoration.

So, regretfully, I think "America" as so many of us knew it is gone, never to return.
