As promised here are some pictures of my previously mentioned rat bike.It is torn apart right now since I am working on modifications. The copper tubing in the first picture is part of a new tank mockup. It is a 1936 Hawthorne frame, 1950s Monark springer fork, 1930s schwinn brakes: front drum, rear cantilever, 9 speed rear hub: Sturmey archer AW threespeed hub with a cyclo triple hub sprocket shifted by an mid 1960s chrome plated bronze Campagnolo Record derailleur. I modified handlebars from a small dirtbike by brazing a Campagnolo braze-on downtube shifter, and brazing on cable guides made from the inner rollers from bicycle chain. The 1950s era three speed hub is shifted by a 1930s vintage top tube shifter mounted on the...
So far I've picked up a BMI peanut tank, Kalloy seat-post and a saddle and added a left-hand freewheel to the rear wheel and made use of the OEM 44t chainring. A full-coverage OEM rear-fender is in the mail as is a Hayes V9 9" brake rotor for the front. The rotor is gonna be a bit tricky since the front fork on these things comes down where the rotor needs to be. I'm not gonna be able to simply build a disc-brake wheel to suit my needs like I did with my cruiser, I'm going to have to modify the OEM hub to accommodate a rotor while maintaining clearance with the fork.
Been a while since I've posted. I've been busy building electric bikes for the past few years. This one will have a motor, so I decided to come to the place where bicycle motor heads hang out. I'm researching 4 strokes and I haven't came to a decision yet on the set up. I have plenty of room so it will be easy to adapt. I took it on it's first roll and it is perfectly straight and smooth. I have a single sided rear axle set up to show off the insane rear tire. It's my first try at a single sided axle so I had to figure in a lot of math and calculations to get it perfectly balanced. My John Deere Project! Finally done, I guess I am one of the few to try out these new 49cc 4-stroke kits. I made many modifications, and some additions, and thought the crew would like my comments. The engine runs nice. No complaints there. I added some motor mounts by slicing off the rubber ends of some tire valves, because everyone complained about vibration. They work well. I ditched the chain tensioner wheel but kept the bracket and added a spring loaded glide wheel made for a single speed bike. This really helps, as the spring jumps back and forth under accel/deaccelleration. The decals came off a child's Peg-Prego JD pedal tractor. A 6v battery runs just the lights (rear turn signals, brake light and front lights) I added a...
Hey there...:) So we're going to do this one properly..! Originally, I was going to go with a dedicated board track racer, but this idea became a little too cost prohibitive. With the frames at around $350 USD, that would be almost $500 by the time it got to Oz. And that's not even with the tank. In reality I was probably looking at around $1k AUD just in the frame..!So what I've decided on now is a hybrid street/board track. GT-5 frame with double springer front end, board track style bars and seat set up. Best of both worlds..! The idea is to have quality parts and running gear throughout, sourced from both bike and motorcycle brands. This thing will be fast so it has to be safe as well - plus it's not exactly legal to be riding...
Hello guys! I'm Christian, and 16 years old. I have blacksmithed for 9 years and been welding for about 9 monthes. I had an old bike that my grandfather gave me and an old Tecumseh 3.5 motor that went on my Go-Kart. So what do I do? Combine them! I am a new member, and this is my first post, and my first build. So please give me any tips and ask any questions! Thanks! I'm taking the pedals off, so I guess it's legally a motorcycle xP P.S. My mig welder is broke and I'm to lazy to fix it, so I am using my SMAW welder, so most of these are tacks till I get the mig welder working cause the tubing is so thin and all I've been doin is burning holes. xD So sorry if the welds look nasty. Gear Ratio question: I have a 12 tooth gear on the...
Hi all, I introduced myself over here, thought I'd take a bit of time and introduce you to my more-or-less continuous R&D powered bike project. This nuttiness has been going since about 2002. TourSleazy (TS) is so named because it is inspired by the TourEasy LWB layout but built mainly out of junk. It started life with solid suspension front and rear, but when my knees complained, TS sprouted a Honda G100, 97cc sidevalve engine. Riding the bike in its early human powered configuration dictated that rear suspension was necessary to cope with marginal roads at high speeds (for a bicycle, that is). I cut up a junked MTB with a cantilever rear suspension and grafted that into TS's frame. There's numerous ways to transmit drive to the...
Finally got it all together now. Drove it down to the lake, & buried the speedo. (40 mph) I was really suprised. Not even broken in yet, so ought to do at least 45 or so after a couple of tanks. Just a Chinese 49cc with a velocity stack, better exhaust, & a torque converter. I put a solo seat on for now, but have a custom bannana being upholstered. It will be ready next week.
This is my first build. I have posted for a while now but today was the first day I had where everything was in that allowed me to do my first step of painting the frame. So far this build is going to be a retro/vintage looking Indian cruiser/board track racer. The frame is a GT2A Skyhawk frame with 150mm drop out. The front forks are black powder coated 1 1/8" threadless Sunlite Deluxe double springer. Once my threadless stem arrives Monday I hope the paint to be cured enough to assemble the head set so I can cut my steer tube down to size then I will be using Eastwood Down to Metal paint and powdercoat stripper so I can paint the forks in the same color as the frame. Anyways here are the photos I have taken from what I have done...
Here are a couple pictures from this past weekend. I have a build thread on the other forum if you need more details. I still need to mount up my idler and get the MB side chain installed. It's getting close. This is my version of a Worksman Board Track Racer. http://i916.photobucket.com/albums/ad6/sportscarpat/SPORTS MODEL/DSC05160.jpg http://i916.photobucket.com/albums/ad6/sportscarpat/SPORTS MODEL/DSC05159.jpg http://i916.photobucket.com/albums/ad6/sportscarpat/SPORTS MODEL/DSC05161.jpg
alright!!!! I am finally finished... It took forever (well actually four solid days and a couple of weeks on the net and waiting for shipping) but it is actually done. I had the nuvinci hub laced into my wheel yesterday and installed it today. All I can say is... WOW!!!!! Besides making my bike way faster through the higher gear ratios, it has an unexpectedly much smoother power delivery. here is a list of what I have put on the bike in case anybody is interested... 2007 felt Red Barron cruiser Zoombicycles 80cc engine kit Sick Bikes deluxe jackshaft kit Nuvinci CVP hub Ridley Motorcycles front mount upgraded plug and plug wire upgraded fuel filter upgraded air filter Dual pull brake lever (no brakes yet) Port matched intake and...
