Pictures of motorized bike projects and bike builds. Vote for the best build!
Finally got it all together now. Drove it down to the lake, & buried the speedo. (40 mph) I was really suprised. Not even broken in yet, so ought to do at least 45 or so after a couple of tanks. Just a Chinese 49cc with a velocity stack, better exhaust, & a torque converter. I put a solo seat on for now, but have a custom bannana being upholstered. It will be ready next week.
Preamble to this - I have had a basic straight kit-build in the past decade, and an aborted build that was much higher grade, that had i lost interest in/evolved into the build being documented right now.. over a 5 year time-span. I had stopped 'building' .. but i didn't stop monitoring/buying up parts to progress on another possible build. As such, in putting it all together when the project came back on the bench, i had minimum needed to buy, more a matter of pick and choose. In my frustration over my aborted build, i had built a higher-end eMTB - and some components of that, have also being able to filter down to this project. I have, in all truthfulness, already found my 'regular' ride in the Downhill eMTB. I am doing this...
well ive finally gone & done it! me & the dogs & augidog got the old higgins motorized today! it was a grand time of tinkering fidgitry & it slowly came to life! what a flash to my past & the many hours spent with such projects, its odd i used to cuss a lot & throw things but now i find my self slowing down as to catch the finer points ect. & is really a theraputic zen thing!! heres a few evolution shots of the project. mind you this is a temporary set up just to get her rolling! i have many mods & goodies planned for this bike! peewee herman eat your heart out!
Finally got my 100cc (79cc) Predator clone kit done! Put on 35 miles over the last few weeks. Got it to 45mph (still has governor). Rides smooth, reliable, sounds good! Sounds like a little 4-stroke pit bike. Had to buy a replacement carb and install new clutch, and adjust valve lash. Pretty happy with it now. Gets lots of attention, especially pulling up to the gas station and pumping gas right into it! Appreciate everyone who helped with good advice.
I've been watching my younger brother tool around on his motorized bike for a couple years. My wife and son had visit to grandma's in San Diego coming up so I figured it would be a good time to give it a go. I'm a big guy (6'4", 285lbs) so this isn't the right toy to try to set a speed record on, but I figured I could put together a fun cruiser for pretty cheap. I had an original budget of $300... but after carefully considering the potential safety issues of the bike, I decided on upgrading to a hub-sprocket setup vs the rag joint and I was none-too-thrilled with the stock tensioner (even the 4-bolt version). I had images of the damn thing falling in to my spokes running through my head and decided an arch-type tensioner was in...
My John Deere Project! Finally done, I guess I am one of the few to try out these new 49cc 4-stroke kits. I made many modifications, and some additions, and thought the crew would like my comments. The engine runs nice. No complaints there. I added some motor mounts by slicing off the rubber ends of some tire valves, because everyone complained about vibration. They work well. I ditched the chain tensioner wheel but kept the bracket and added a spring loaded glide wheel made for a single speed bike. This really helps, as the spring jumps back and forth under accel/deaccelleration. The decals came off a child's Peg-Prego JD pedal tractor. A 6v battery runs just the lights (rear turn signals, brake light and front lights) I added a...
well the little 29cc bike is being retired. it is a sad day. BUT, dont fear, my projects always come back better. in this case, i have an almost brand new 5 hp briggs. it has less than an hour of use, and looks factory, no dents not even any dirt packed in the fins, it just happens, that it will fit in the frame of the old 5 speed bike. now i know what you all want to know, and that is, it it gonna have gears? that is a definate yes. i feel that with this power, the gears are gonna be fairly shallow, but i have an idea to combat that. it is gonna be a street bike, as much as that pains me, but the casette doesnt have a creeper gear. i did the math, and i need a 6 to 1 for dirt use, but that will be very hard to make. i can make an...
Well I finaly Have the Felt MP for my Proto Type that I have been waiting for for nearly two and a half months for it to get here. It is no longer built with aluminum so a Frame tank is out. I will not be proceeding with the build untill after the holidays but the front wheel is off to the bike shop for a drum brake. And if you have not guessed this already this bike will be built with the 4G T Belt Drive that was in my previous videos. Here are a few pic's for now this lighting Kit will not be avalible untill it is proven. Gas powered bicycles are ilegal here in Canada so that is why this Proto Type is going to be a Limited Speed Motorcycle and will be registred licenced and insured. Oh and I forgot the mention This Is My First Build...
My first post. There it is, my first bike. Hiland MTB 66cc motor cleaned up internals, port matched, NGK plug, extractor exhaust, HP carb, 52 tooth rear sprocket and modified stock muffler. Stock internals and head. Took a long time to make this happen, watched a lot of youtube and read the forums. This one is the best by far. A few details, the extractor on it's own was way too loud so I put the stock muffler on which killed the power so I made it into a glass pack by gutting the internals, drilling several more holes in the pipe, wrapped it loosely with expanded screen and filled the cavity with fibre glass. Works great not too loud. The stock rear sprocket was drilled to mount on the disc brake hub but found it way too fast and had...
The old reduction friction drive has been removed and tossed on a shelf. It was fun, I learned, but its wore out. Stripped bike to its bearings, cleaned, lubed, new driveline chain and cassette 11-32 / 7 with long cage derailleur, trigger shifter. Dumped front derailleur. Stole hookworms from wife's bike. 🙄 Added BBR 48cc. And that's my stopping point. There's no way in hell a chain will line up w/o power idlers. Kinda knew that anyway.... Course, now I whine, pout, wife says I can get a shift kit for xmas. 🤣😂 Hope I got everything right, I watched a video b4 installing those circlips, one for the clutch too. Was planning to break it in on a trainer stand, but as I can't run chain it has to wait. Do I need a load on the engine...
Well, at long last, I think I have all the parts mocked up- hopefully some things you may not have seen before are incuded. Here are pics of a few details- all designed to create the impression of a motorcycle from the teens. First, the non-functional leaf springs, front and rear- non-functional as springs at least. They are my fenders and due to their construction, are not susceptible to breaking like standard fenders are. Also, I fabbed a bracket for the tail light:
Fito Modena GT-2 7-speed bike (Ebay) 49cc 4-stroke HS142F with 80-tooth 4G gear (bicycle-engines.com) Shift Kit (Sick Bike Parts) Heavy Duty Clutch (Staton-inc) 2.4 gallon fuel tank (Ebay) Double kickstand (Amazon) Suspension seatpost (donor bike) Less clownish handlebars (donor bike) Digital tach (Amazon) Speedometer (Amazon) Tuffy strips and tire slime (Amazon) Ibera back rack (Amazon) Jacket: Joe Rocket UFO 2.0 (Amazon)
Was getting my bikes out for the upcoming move. This bike hasnt seen the light of day for years. Thought I take a few pics. The build is basically finished, just a million little details. The Villiers is driving thru the bottom bracket directly to a clutch on the right side to a 3sp IGH. I did something I have wanted to do but have never done, is to convert a coaster wheel to a front brake. Notice also where the rear brakes are. Should be a cool old school ride. Its a true 100cc. The old Villiers are smooth, torquey runners that dont rev overly high. The engine is an early 30s and the frame is a 36 Cleveland Welding step thru. This one may reach forty. Will be badly under braked at that speed, will keep it as an easy going 30ish cruiser.
