Hello,

Without pulling the bike apart to measure, is there any way I can tell the size of the bearings I need for the following on my bike:

the wheels
the headset.

It is a 90's sometime Malvern star bike, Picture here:

I'm most interested in the headset, as I have a bit of movement there and want to sort it out asap, but need the bike to get to work...

is it likely to be 5/32 1/4 or 3/16?

Headset bearings are usually 1/8" as for the wheels ? Front hub bearings are usually smaller than the rear. Sizes for hub bearings could be any of the following 5/32", 3/16", 7/32", 1/4".

well i did the headset bearings today, both top and bottom. The bottom race was completely dry, no grease at all!

I used loose balls, all new without the cages. figure with the extra bearing surface area should be a lot stronger!

Lots of grease, twice the number of bearings! Should be good for ages now! :)

Now onto the wheels....
