Speeding, 44 mph in a 35

man im lucky for that dont need a license unless i go past 40 but when they do find me doing over 40 im on the main city road which is 4 lains wide and packed with cars and i always cut in out of cars all the time the only cop that can even come close to getting me is a motorcycle cop but they cant seem to get me as well

He is Right

x2 The same thing happened with cars and that why most police dont give youngsters in HOT cars a second chance

yeah...i see a few problems with the situation, myself...but i have no doubt a 52cc could do it. so, a cop fabricates the stats, it could happen, i agree. but if he knew the law (and we all know most cops don't have a clue about our rides) he'd have busted you for riding a completely illegal and unregistered motorcycle, no matter how fast you were going<---my opinion loosely based on federal definition of an MB.

i saw another post somewhere about a 17 year old riding on the sidewalk, yet he was complaining about a cager who turned in front of him....are we riding toys or responsible alternative transportation?

if we keep acting like a buncha kids on pocketbikes, we're gonna be treated as such. if we force the law to find loopholes (like displacement specs) they will, and then they'll start taking our bikes away.

zemus-dude...why not start advocating a more serious road-attitude, & help us put the horsepower of the sport where it belongs...on the track.

Speaking of putting these bikes on tracks... does anybody here know of any velodromes that would be receptive of letting us have a race? There's one by me, but I haven't asked them yet. I have a pretty good feeling they'd say no anyway, because it's in a really uptight town. Or maybe even a roller derby track. Those girls are pretty out there, they'd probably be more receptive to it. Not much maneuvering room on those tracks though.

I'm a total advocate of being safe and responsible on the streets... but off the streets is a different story.

well, if you're serious, then we need you onboard at MBRA, stuff like that doesn't just fall into place, we need to earn our spot in motorsporting...but beware, we're serious about safety, AND we're serious about ambassadorship.

(we have track-owners...not bicycle tracks but real motorsport tracks...around the country who aren't saying "no" but only saying we have to have the right attitude & be organized)

leading sellers and suppliers talking about speedin' & cuttin' in and out of traffic...NOT COOL. you're un-doing our work faster than we can organize...i'll be re-tightening the racing specs, we don't want to even appear affiliated with such behavior. DOT helmets, full-time lighting on the road, safe wheels and brakes, engines that comply with current regulations, and COURTESY!! we better grow up and behave ourselves before we get grounded.

VELODROMES (getting access to) what a GREAT IDEA !!! That would make for a lot of fun.. There is a very nice velodrome in San Diego - at Morley Field a City Park area. The one thing that I could see as a possible problem --- oil and gas leaks -- bicycle racers will want none of that.. Happy Riding from Mountainman

Hey very good points, Augi. I am sorry I got a little excited about something kinda crazy and humorous. So while I was waiting for my friend to figure out why he was in jail(which in fact, was a mistake on the police dept.), I wrote up my experience on the forum. My adrenaline was still pumping.

As far as safety is concerned. My bikes have been inspected by NHRA inspectors at Lewistown Raceway in Montana. Each bike that was being rode last night had at least two head lights that produced more light then most motorcycles. I had three taillights... two of which where on full time, and one that strobed. Zip had two tailights, a brake light, and left/right turn signals. The third rider had two taillights. We all had mirrors. We all had speedometers. For you to imply that I would try this on anything other then safe is kind of insulting. You should not assume anything offensive especially when you dont know of specifics which you speak sir.

When and where did ever speak of cutting in and out of traffic, We where cruzing the strip. And at 1:30 in the morning with NO traffic out, on a very well lit road. To me that seemed like a safe environment for me to run my bike up to top speed at night. So we went full throttle... who wouldnt? I was not going through downtown... we where on our way there though. The officers at the scene all said themselves if they where in our position that is right where they would try to max them out. As a matter of fact they all thought it was awesome that a motorized bicycle could go that fast to the point where they are going to introduce the thought of using this system on the cities police bicycles. They would not have pulled us over if me and Zip where not side-by-side tucked(only reason he could prolly radar us) and they thought his orange bike was a orange Harley that ran from the police the night before.

Dimension Edge has been in Billings Montana for 22 years. We have shown this city that we are very courteous and non-obtrusive to city traffic. Almost the entire community knows and understands the benefits from a motorized bicycle, including the authorities. I am hard pressed to drive more then 1 mile through Billings and not see at least one other motored bike on the road. Point is plz dont try and lecture me about my "presentation".

To me there is no "presentation". I ride my motorized bicycle as though I was any other vehicle on the road. I take my lane(unless I am slowing traffic), I follow the law as closely as I can, and sometimes I like to see how fast I can go. Well this time I got in trouble for it. I will be paying a 300 dollar ticket, and if I start driving a car again, my insurance will skyrocket.

Just let me have my lighter side of things. Augi you are truely an awesome and very inspirational guy... plz dont turn ugly.

Augi, for starters, you are my friend and i appriciate you for everything you do. My bikes only connection to Dimension edge is the mounting hardware. I have always cared about making things go faster...that is just ME, NOT Dimension Edge. I know you are the same way otherwise you wouldnt be organizing a racing league. You wouldnt endorse Detonatortunings 4.2+ hp engine on Gebe's setup.

I would also like to take back my comment about turning ugly. I was extremely takin by what you said, augi. If I would have spent more time to think about what i was posting I may have had a little more discretion. But I was as giddy as a school girl.

zemus, thanks for the controlled response. it's obvious i'm also passionate when i address our responsibilty to the movement. lemme make sure i read everything, lil quotes will help.

this is easily addressed, my friend...SAFETY FIRST! (pun intended) in other words include your own safety specs/explaination/disclaimer before someone calls you on it. you're a leader & every word you type (or don't type) matters.

"keep in mind that my bicycle is built to withstand the high speeds i'm discussing, please don't do this at home, kids."

the entire remaining body of your message is cool by me...the "cuttin' in & out" remark was about someone else's post, but what a perfect way to illustrate how quickly we can be misunderstood and grouped together...again, (imo) all that info about safe riding should have responsibly been included in your 1st-post, because all the new reader/rider sees is 44mph and how exciting is that?!? woohoo! gonna get me one of dem!!!...you see my point?

my personal style is to pimp minimum mechanical and safety standards, and we all know the best way to do that is by organized racing. having met you personally, i know for a fact that you're a trooper, & a major gearhead...i'm just trying to reign you in a bit and offer you a venue to vent your "frustrations"...lemme read some more...

there is one minor thing:

let's be honest...we saw a different attitude when y'all visited our town, and that's all i have to go on...now this...so

this is not about being ugly, it's about growing up & calling it like it is...we need to get together and standardize...i think you're genuine, and i respect your freedoms, but if you want to be instrumental in the growth and preservation of the movement, you're going to have to be willing to proactively compromise.

this is an important discussion, i'm willing to see it thru

i appreciate your second response, too. note i never said a word about DE, but it's in your username...again, a disclaimer here would have a been a good idea.

yup, i can't be telling people to put 460's on their bike, but i can be interested enuff to want it done right...and it's active R & D as far as i'm concerned.

hehe...i am lucky, i have a nice 4-mile 55mph zone to do my trials...i don't think i'll be getting any speeding tickets with my 32cc

ps-have you been able to research the requirements to compete in "world of speed '08"..? do you think you'll make it this year?
