Push to Change California MB Law

angus -- thank you for the added information -- although -- IT HURTS SO BAD !!! Went to the first site mentioned by you CHP going to try the second and keep hoping.. I fall under 406a Ca. and do not have a drivers license --- do have a statement from one agency stating that I can ride gas powered 1.6hp without a drivers license --- were they not thinking ??? Not sure -- that's why I have been digging deeper and deeper... Have a great day, Mountainman

Mountainman 406a is electric
mike

Hi Mike -- I apologize for beating the same old bush here... The Motorcycle Handbook 2008 states that 406a can be either a gas or elect. and 406b speaks only in regards to elect... Yes - I admit for obvious reasons I am trying to find a loop hole !!! You have been at this for a long time - I believe that I called you a while back for information -- thank you --- from Mountainman

The poor old bush

Hi Mountainman. I can guarentee you that what i have learned about this is/or/or still is true. NOW you wanted a loophole am I correct?

Gather round your shiney screen and I will tell a true tale of a Security Guard, who also wrote my webpage, and his adventure in motor-bicycling in the state CAPITOL where we have State Police, Highway Patrol, City PD and Sherrif's departments where he rides.

He has no DL, not taken away, is dislexic and has a devil of a time getting the questions answered correctly, even when he knows the answer, and drives correctly.

He works all odd hours, first riding a 55cc china-bike, then upgrading to a Whizzer. WE figure he got 2-4K out of the china-bike (2 frames, and a LOT of repairs), and 6500 more on the Whizzer in the past 1.5 years, that's a lot of biking!

Night and day, day and night, high-risk neighborhoods, all kinds of suspicious times and places.

NO TICKETS!

WHY? Well he claims he paid for license, and never got it, I don't believe that, so he was continually risking that,

Now, rideing WITH helmet, acting legally, not speeding, doing hand signals, making sure the lights worked et al.

The trick, IMHO is IF you cannot have a DL, then good-Gawd get everything else in order so you will have no reason to be stopped! Dale spoke to cops on many occasions, but his license was not demanded, as he had done no wrong.

Plate, Lights, ride legal, ride safe, and, if you have no license, but need to ride, I guess you'll just be taking your chances?

Dale logged a lot of miles, but stay under the radar, and you can always "ghost Pedal" remember, your profile is bicycle, so if you see officer, move them legs!

As to someone wanting to try to change the Laws, KNOCK IT OFF! Typically things only get worse! we can live with what we now have, Get a Plate before they go up again!

Mike

Hey all! Thanks for your responses!

I've already contacted McClintock's office (...he is the state representative from my area and is also high-up in the transportation sub-committee); his folks told me that they liked the idea of simpler treatment for motorized bicycles and to reconnect with them in the fall when they're readying their legislative plate for 2009).

In the mean time, if you all would like to help, then we should prepare a simple set of recommendations based on the current situation and a vision for how MBs should be managed.

Any thoughts?

Hi angus -- your contacting Mc Clintock's office -- great start --- it seems from the reading of DMV material in regards to motorized bicycles -- elect. calls for no license requirments -- where as gas under 2hp grey area -- first main goal could be -- the treating of gas and elect. exactly the same.. After all - we are using a very small amount of gas - and should be encouraged in our efforts !!! Happy Riding from - Mountainman

MotorBikeMike --- I understand what you are saying here... Some GOOD FOOD FOR THOUGHT --- I am going to think this all over for a while -- A MAN IS WHAT HE THINKETH -- thank you from - Mountainman
