OK everyone,

First may I say that this can get addictive!

Here is my newest challenge. I am going to make this Mongoose a frame mount MB!

Really!

Here are the pics of it before I made any modifications:

I will add some more pics tomorrow as soon as I am finished. I actually have the motor mounted (it was a very tight fit!). I just want to finish up all the details tonight and take some new pics.

I had to remount the rear end suspension and make it a solid rear instead of the swing rarm.

Then I had to take out the shock and mounts for the shock. Then I had to cut  (yes cut) the one bar out of the center of the frame.

Before I went any further, I rode the bike (off road) and I rode it hard :devilish: to make sure it was going to hold up to the motor. I believe it will do just fine. :D I was taking jumps and turning fat in the curves, etc.

Now I have added the motor, gas tank, sprocket, chain and guard, throttle, dual brake handle, and cluch handle.

Tonight I will put the speedo on, the lights, and the tool/parts bag and it will be rady to go.

Why? Ruin a fine full suspension when there are so many ridgid frames to work with. The rear mount would work great on the suspended frame. Again, Why?

Hey Lenny,

I guess the best answer to that is availability. I already had the bike, and I already had the frame mount motor kit.

Otherwise, I would have to go and buy another bike as nice as this one because I want the front disk brakes and the frame is light as ****.

I have had this bike for some time and I had only ridden it a few times so I figured, why not?

I looked at so many bikes recently and I could not find any new ones that would hold the engine (measurement wise) besides the older frame huffy and the schwinn cruser or equivilent made by pacific bikes.

I work as a Corporate Electrical Technician for a plastic pipe company so I wanted something that looked noce and the Huffy did not fit the bill even though it was new. (I am keeping the frame for a backup just in case anything happens to the Mongoose).

Also, the Huffy had crappy brakes. The Mongoose has front disk and they stop much better. (It got pretty hairy a few times running 30mph in town and trying to stop).

Im in total agreement with you on that one - a wonderfully styled and designed bike that would not have been cheap and someone takes a cutter to it no less

If you are going to make a MB from a full sus frame like that one use a rack mount of some sort - staton or GEBE or even the Z-Box chengine mount.. but dont chop the thing up for the sake of it *sigh*

Sorry everyone.

I just got this job a few months ago. I am up to my ears in student loans. I pay 250.00 a week on my student loans, that is 1000 to 1250 a month.

I could not afford yet another bike.

I tried to save it but the Huffy just was not cutting it. The suspension forks (1") was falling apart after 100 miles. The brakes sucked, and would have gotten me killed.

I bought the Mongoose about 2-3 years ago and it was just sitting out in the barn gathering dust, and dry rotting.

At least I put it to use. I feel like it was just being wasted and now it is not.

I can not afford a rack mount motor and I have not seen a rack mount for the frame mount motor.

Oh well, the damage was already done when I posted the first time so there is not anything I can do to change it now.

Away with ye, naysayers !! :p

Paul,

you, go ahead & build what you like.

and be sure to show us more pics!!

It's your world....thanks for letting us in it!! :D

(last year, I sawed a 1967 "Chicago built" Schwinn in two!! But that's another topic.... :p)

Finally, a positive remark! OK, I will share more...

Thanks srdavo,

I was beginning to think I was going to get beat up for days for making a MB out of my bike.

I will post some more pics in just a minute.

It is done. I finished it tonight. :D

I think it looks great myself and it runs great. The motor has 100 miles on it so the break in has been started, just on the other frame. At the moment it has a 44T sprocket but I have a 40T ordered and I will put it on when it arrives. :D

I also found a locking gas cap that fits our HT tanks, and so far it does not leak! (YEAH) With this cap, I know that no one will put anything in my tank and it does not leak! I will give anyone the info if they want to have a non-leaking cap.

I also made a bracket to attach to my tensioner so it can not turn into my spokes @ 30mph. I will supply that info also if anyone wants it.

I know, I crammed a lot of things into this post, but I thought I would get it out there now before I get yelled at again for converting my mongoose into a MB. :???:

I am sorry if I offended anyone while converting this bike, but I needed reliable transportation.

BTW, the bike weighs in @ 70 pounds

Thanks Mitch for the positive remark. :)

I just weighed the bike and it is a whopping 70 pounds!

OK, I guess neutral remarks are welcome also, I just do not like the negative ones since I was just wanting to share.

I know, SORRY, you poor 42 year old baby.

I figured I would say it before some else does.

BTW, dare I ask what what everyone thinks of it since it is done. :???:

Whats the info for that locking gas cap?

Theres so many other things ppl can tamper with on these bikes, I figure I knock one thing out of the way.
