Staton hot rod?

frameteam2003: Remember,Bicycles wheels don't just get out of round and wobble---they bend in half all of a sudden!(in turns!)

I don't recall seeing that happen before, can you give a video link?

Well....now I'm excited!
I will head out to my shop clean the 2 stroke up and hopefully install it.
I've never pulled the engine off my staton gearbox.....is it a 4 bolt affair or is there more to it??

Look at the output side on the gear box and see if there are 4 plugs in the side of the case. If so remove them and using a long 3/16 Allen wrench, locate and remove the 4 engine mounting bolts on the opposite side. Don't let them fall into the box.

No plugs, remove the gear box bolts and split the case. Using a metric socket, remove the 4 engine bolts.

What kind of rim? I rode around for two weeks with broken spokes from my basement wreck and didn't know it. The 48 spoke Ryno Lite double wall was still straight.

My dog and I hopped into my pickup drove out to the shop grabbed the 52cc 2 stroke brought it back here to the house unfortunately it's gas tank is almost empty and I dont have the right mix here.
I'm outa time now as I have to leave for a gig with my band.
I will report in tomorrow for those interested.

Spoke tension is why a wheel will not hold true and is what helps prevent them from tacoing. If you flat spot a rim or bend it in any way you should probably do some tightening and loosening of spokes. This can make a wheel last a lot longer even if it has been damaged. This may be a job best done by an expert but it can be learned by many. I found a lot of good articles on "wheel truing" in google search. The bicycle wheel needs more attention than a motorcycle wheel but is so much lighter that our 1.5 hp motors can drive them pretty well. Now if you have 15 or 150 hp to work with the srtonger wheel and added weight are the way to go. I think a down hill rim with 36 spokes kept true and tensioned properly will handle what most of us give them. Go with 48 spokes and I am sure it works.

OK... took a couple extra days (as always).
I cleaned the 52cc stroke fresh fuel mix/fresh plug and it fired right up!
I was impressed/surprised.
I followed Kerf's instruction and dropped my RS out and swapped it for the 2 stroke.
It was really straight forward and only took 20 minutes start to finish....I started thinking about having a few different style / type motors om the shelf for ride variety.
Unfortunately the clutch sticks out slightly further than the RS and it actually bottomed out in the clutch housing.
When it was mounted in place the motor wouldn't even turn over.
It seated all the way in on the test fit so it must only contact by a very small amount.
Is there a shim available...should go to the trouble of designing one?
i built a small cnc gantry style mill a couple years ago so thats do-able... and repeatable.
Id really like to be able to use this motor but maybe it just doesnt fit and I should just not fool with it. I dont have much expierience with this stuff.

I picked up some shims a while back at one of the largest car engine rebuilders in town -- had everything I wanted.. Happy Riding from - Mountainman
