If you need info on anything they sell it is better to call on the phone, Station-inc does not seem to answer emails. over the last month I have sent numerous emails requesting some info, which Dave told me to do on the phone< and still recieved no reply. I have also seen others make comment of this in other posts.

Staton_inc sells on ebay under motorizedfunproducts and the same is true there. His rating has dropped to 95 on the feedback rating with 2 complaints today on lack of comunication.

I find it hard to believe that I have to beg someone for a simply reply so I can make the decision on which kit I need. Being that what I am ordering is over $700 I don't think thats to much to ask.

I guess I will go with the cheaper kit he offers since I have the info I need on that one. I'll call my order in since he does answer the phone. Or Hmmmmmm.......Maybee I'll just buy a different style kit from a dealer who wants to make a sale.

No need to go back to something I avoided to begin with.

I got no axes to grind either way, I'm an end user and not a vendor so no doubt who's side I'll be on and I thought that was one of the purposes of this site.

The Staton chain drive gearboxes are bulletproof and, depending if you like that look and design, industrial.

I've thought that to be true of the friction drives as well.

I have a new Staton friction drive sitting in a box in my shop that I bought for my wife to use, she's a small person and not a heavy user.

I'll always try to be fair in my assessments of products and given the choice I'll buy American. But I'll guarantee one thing, if she has a drive spindle snap after 2 miles or 120 miles as two recent users did, this won't be the last I have to say about it.:D

Nobody's twisting your arm to buy from him, go back to Crappy Time.
Who said their arm was being twisted? I was asked to explain something and I did and related my frustration about it. It was my first ever bike kit. I chose it for its simplicity, my particular bike setup, and cost.
I can't "go back to Crappy Time" never had one and wouldn't choose one.

That's the whole point, after you've been around the block a few times (Revolution Cycles, etc.) Staton might seem pretty good. I've got three friction drives, worn out two engines, replaced a couple of bearings but that's it. His kill switches, and thumb throttles all worked fine. Thumb throttles aren't my cup of tea so I switched to his twist. Thumb units work fine just not comfortable for long rides. I've worn rollers out but never broken one, probably is a bad heat treat batch, it happens. David is not a big box store, every time I've called he's the one that answers so I imagine other employees are few. Until you've run a small business, (I do) you don't understand the issues of becoming overwhelmed with business. Increased business doesn't automatically cover the overhead of additional employees, let alone having to stop and train them. I've had calls I didn't return and jobs I've turned down, simply because when you're working 16 hour days, there's just not much left.

Been around the block....quite a few times in my three score years.
Have my own small business now, had a few.
Being overwhelmed by business is a good problem to have, beats the alternative.
Most people guard against failure, I've seen a few beaten by success.
No axes to grind.

Yes it's quite unfortunate he is not a better businessman. It can be very nerve-wracking at times.

In my case, it was worth putting up with the BS to get a better quality kit. However I can definately see where it would not be worth the aggravation for some.

I read a lot of stories about long waits and poor communication, so I was prepared for the worst having dealt with this before....and the story was the same - "it's worth it to wait for quality". And guess what? It's true. Here's the questions I ask of myself:

Was the communication from Staton ****-poor? Yep.

Did it surprise me? Nope.

Would I order from someone else who had better customer service and an equally quality product? Yep.

Is there anyone who offers and equally good product that has great customer service or faster ship times? Nope.

Did my kit come within 10 days of placing my order? Yep.

Would I buy from Staton again? Absolutely.
