Charged with driving while license suspended and operating an unregistered vehicle

Michigan is my home state. Still a lot of family right in your area. And now I'm ashamed of my home state.

Yes, it sounds like an MB is a vehicle that should be registered by law. So, yes, you shouldn't have been riding.

But the cop shouldn't have bothered you. (You were being cool, right?) And the state shouldn't hassle you. Looks like they're going too, but they still shouldn't.

Sorry to hear about it.

hi Simonator

well if I get stopped -- I may also be in this same boat

it is a game that we are playing -- knowing the consequences may be harsh...

I have always told myself --
Mountainman don't do the crime if you can't do the time

and the truth of the matter is --
any jail time done in any way -- sucks hard !!!

so one day at a time now -- I try to be a good boy
it's a challenge at times -- but always -- the right thing to do

ANYWAY -- NOW YOU HAVE BEEN CAUGHT -- NEED DUCKS IN A ROW
trial by jury we hear -- may bring a deal from DA wishing to avoid the hassle of trial

Question Simonator -- do you have some paperwork so as to show the court
that you are within the law ???

here in Calif -- it appears that under 2 hp -- no license required
there are some states close to the same laws -- but especially call out
that in the case of DUI suspension of license -- MAY NOT RIDE A MB...

even though you have gotten in some trouble in the past
most of us are pulling for you here
keep us informed -- what's going on with all of this

hope that you can come through it on the top side -- so you can

Ride That Thing - Simonator

One thing everyone here must understand is that local law enforcement generally takes such things as DUI and OWI very seriously- I know the OP was not drinking, but once they saw you didn't have a license, ran your name and discovered why, you were done. No tolerance, no leniency. We can cry about how unfair it is- but that doesn't get us anywhere. This is the way the world works.

That sucks. I know I am running illegally, although I have the papers to apply for a moped tag. I think you can get a separate moped license, separate from the driver's license. The thing is that happy times are not eligible for moped status when over 50cc.

I would be careful about fighting it if you do not have the money for a good lawyer. I would beg for mercy.

err, maybe you are young and stupid, although the fact you said it yourself hints at enough maturity for self-awareness, at least.

Rebel? I don't think so.
James Dean wouldn't bother even noticing you.

What did you do to lose your license in the first place?

Too many points on my license. I kept driving and got caught driving while license suspended a few times. Then I started fleeing police if I thought I could get away. That worked a few times but I eventually got busted for that. Now my license is revoked and I have to pay thousands and thousands of dollars and have a hearing in court to get it back.

I was cruising along at about 25 mph when the cop got behind me. I was polite to the cop like I usually am. In the past I usually got off with a warning or a very minor ticket when I am polite and respectful. It didn't happen this time!

IT doesn't look like I was obeying the law. The law states that a 2 wheeled vehicle with a 50cc engine or less is a moped. Period. It doesn't say anything about pedal assist. It states that I need a drivers license, or moped license to ride it, and it must be registered.

That sucks. I think you can get a separate moped license, separate from the driver's license. .

Michigan law states that you are not eligible for a moped license if your drivers license is suspended. This state wants you walking or pedaling your @ss off once you lose your license. No breaks at all. :(

Another bad thing is that I am still on probation for fleeing and eluding a few years ago. So, If I am convicted of these charges I could go to jail for violating probation. I doubt that will happen. My P.O. is cool. I was supposed to be off probation by now. The reason I am not is because I haven't paid off my fines yet.
Those were very bad bad decisions I made in the past when I ran from the law. I totally regret it now. I been trying to do the right thing by pedaling a bike everywhere the past 2 years. If finally drove me nuts to the point I decided there has to be a better way. That is when I discovered happy time kits. I debated about buying one for a while. I was worried about getting in trouble riding it. I finally gave in and bought one.
