Has anyone ridden the new BionX 500 motor with the lithium battery. I was thinking of putting one on a Dahon. Rumor has it, it will pull 25 mph or more.

Hi Stryker...Why would you want to go with BionX. All the ones I have seen cost a lot of Cake! Why not go with a Cyclone and go threw the gears. Should see 25 MPH. Just my thought . POPS

BionX is a cool piece of kit, nice info panel and stuff.. gearless brushless hubs are reliable and simple creatures..

The cylone is only for those who have tools and are willing to do what it takes to make it work, because it's not always just bolt on and go.. by any means..

Legal speed limited to 30 km/h ie: 25 mph + or - a bit.. ( there are ways to hack the program and bypass some of this stuff !! ) :D

Consider an eZee kit for price comparison.. geared brushless motor.. 10ah lithium.. ither the ezee or the bionx is a complete package and makes it easy enough to figure out instead of the crystalyte range of parts that work depending on your need for speed..

Legal Speed Limit?

In New Hampshire they're are NO laws specific to electric bikes. About the only thing this state has going for it.

BionX is over priced and under powered. Nice battery mount but thats all I see nice about it.

If you want to spend about $1500. Get a Cyclone 1000w 48v system and go 45 MPH. Yes, that's right miles per hour not kilometers.

If you only want to do 20 mph. The best value is the e-zip. The battery and motor are, well so so. But the frame & rims were born to be motorized.

1500W Cyclone!

They added a 1500w kit!! http://www.cyclone-tw.com/order.htm
I can't imagine someone selling a kit without testing it for meltage.
Sorry I exagerated the price it only about $1300 for the 1500w.
Shipping is $350 WOW! That's what I paid for my e-zip!
By the the time I can buy one maybe there will be a 2000w kit! :devilish:

I've already done the research, speed isnt all that important, 20 mph is fine on a small dahon. Plus I want a hub motor, clean light and efficient. If I have to carry this thing around I dont want 50 pounds of batteries to carry. So once again has anyone used the new 500w motor

The bionx does have the advantage of having a torque sensor so it will assist you when you ride it like a bicycle and you don't have to use the throttle if you don't want to. It also has regenerative braking which I heard works really well for slowing the bike down controllably and saving on brake pads but it doesn't go too far to actually recharging the batteries.
If I wanted a pure fast ebike I'd go crystalyte. If I wanted an offroader and hill climber I'd go with the cyclone. And IF I wanted to make a tribrid monster I would use the bionx and a friction drive. In regeneration mode you'd practically never have to even plug the batteries in to charge but it would still fly up hills with both motors pumping.
I ought to just get a MadAss 125 and be done with it:)
