Well, that was probably 5/8 of a horsepower in 1955 - which would be about 2.5 horsepower with todays ratings. I think horses were bigger back then.

I have some old audio equipment from the sixties that are rated at 40 watts output, but somehow have more "oomph" than modern "100 Watt" systems..................
