Tribute to Rex and Solex

I am liking that a whole lot - the thing that strikes me is that the build is so clean compared even to some of the actual kits on the market.

I have to say that if that was made into a purchasable kit for a reasonable price I think alot of people would be interested..

well done and welcome to the forum

HellDiver is test-bike, and we got a lot of mistakes here. Next bicycle will be with classic frame, wide tyres, 2HP engine, with silent-blocks. Also we planned to use 3 speed planetary hub on front wheel to make it more comfortable in city and on hills.

But it's difficult to get some parts here in Russia to make final build and cost of them is too hight. Whole motorizred bicycle will be twice expensive than in US or in UK :(

HellDiver will be testing in all weather and road conditions to determine how it reliable.

There is another option on the current set up... and that is to replace the 4-stroke engine with a piped two stroke motor... which should help solve your problem with hill climbing.

You mention the 3 speed hub... you might be interested if you have a look on youtube for the Hudspith Steam Bike which uses the same system as your machine but with a single cylinder reciprocating steam engine and water tube boiler over the front wheel...

Again, I am very impressed with the build

Thank you, Jemma!

Hill climbing is not a problem, I just want to have 3-speed gearbox to move slowly in traffic congestion without pedals :)

Here are 2-stroke 1.5 HP engine, we were tryed to find 4-stroke, but it was only as trimmer :)

Find a pipe that will fit that engine and you'll be amazed :) ... the traffic thing is a learned art... basically you have to read things in advance and blip the engine to keep you rolling fast enough that the bike is stable.. the only thing you have to watch out for is idiots who think everyone else on the road has dual circuit ABS... re the brakes by the way.. have a look if you can find some kevlar brake pads.. they will last alot longer and stop you better, although they are snatchy as all **** in the rain

Do you mean expansion chamber?

have a look if you can find some kevlar brake pads..

Next Rhino will have pocketbike disc brakes on both wheels. After disc brakes on my mini sport bike, pit bike and quad I will never back to the v-brakes or drum brakes.

I LOVED the video. Flammable liquids + flame = FUN.

Jemma is right... that is a very clean build. Are you still able to fold the handlebars down on HellDiver?? I only looked at the pics for a second, but it seems like the engine mounts would restrict the folding there.

And thanks for the tip on kevlar brake pads, Jemma! Mine are wearing down now (much, much quicker than my tires), so I'll have to try those out for sure.

Yep.. an expansion chamber/tuned pipe are one and the same thing... any TP that is suitable for 30cc engines should fit up to yours and make a lot of difference although its advisable to get a silencer with it as without it it will make *alot* of noise.

Re the brakes thing... the ones I use are Clarks WRC which come in a set of four pads and holders (the pads themselves can be taken out of the holder and replaced as required)

As of now those brake pads have done about 800+ miles and are well up to stopping the bike at speed in a fairly good distance..

A good tip when using such pads in the rain... DO NOT use the front brake first, you will get snatch and most likely bounce off the road surface.. use the rear ones at first and then the front brakes... for some reason while normal pads get weaker in the rain... kevlar based/impregnated ones get a *lot* stronger and harsher...

I may loose bolt on handlebars to fold it. Yes, bike is still foldable.

Thank you for answer! Will it reduce engine resource?

Im not sure what you mean by that... a tuned pipe/RC increases power by creating an inverse pressure wave that resonates with the rpm of the engine in such a way as to create a pressure lock at the exhaust port and stop blow-by of fuel mixture between ignition strokes...
It increases engine power in its active range (most pipes are tuned to a given range.. to provide either low, middle or high RPM assistance) although there will be a given amount of boost in all engine ranges.

The downsides are it does make a substantial difference to fuel consumption if the engine is used high-RPMs for long journeys and an unsilenced pipe is *very* loud. For example.. my bike pre pipe would be flat out at 28-30 mph depending on conditions - now its cruising at 29-30mph with less than 1/3 throttle..

The thing with your build is that you will need to choose a slimmer type of pipe since the bike is foldable or route it in such a way as to retain the folding capability.

Important: Pipes are affected by the length of their manifold... this is generally used in model aircraft to tune the RPM range at which it will affect the motor. It is entirely possible to have a manifold reshaped but it is advisable if at all possible to keep the same length of manifold - only extending it if you really have no other choice... for example if the adjustments made are too extreme.. the engine may be providing peak power at idle (which is no good) or on the obverse providing peak power at 500RPM more than the engine actually manages..
