Turn signals, evil thoughts

Last week I had a little problem with my throttle, so instead of fixing the one on the bike, I decided to swap it for an old Honda unit I had. Since the Honda twist grip had the integral turn signal switch and I am already running a 12v lighting system, with a flasher, I figured what the heck. It seems to be working as planed and if the rain stops, I'll be road testing this weekend.

I started with a bicycle and just wanted to put a motor on it but is seems to be morphing into a moped every time I touch it.

I love your bike Kerf. I would have centered the front signals more and used a white reflector but whatever. I've been working on a similar system for the NEXT using yellow clearance lights as you have, however I've found removing the outer mounting point and instead using a short self taping screw gives it more of a normal motorcycle turn signal look. Just a thought, it looks like you're just in the experimental phase with it anyhow. Good luck, I wish I could ride that beast!

No, the experiential stage is long past. I've just finished separating the turn circuit from the lighting system and adding a separate diode isolated circuit. The system now has:

20w 10 deg. spot halogen headlight.

6w dual bulb tail light.

9W front & rear parking lights.

R/L turn signals, front & rear.

Front and rear flashing warning hazard lights.

Speedometer mount offsets front lights. Changing the mount is an interesting cosmetic idea I may look at.

What the heck, I've come this far, might as well shoot the whole nine yards. I've added a brake light below the tail light and used a momentary contact switch to the rear brake. The brake cable "J" tube moved to almost touch my forward gear box strut, so I placed the switch in the strut. I think I'm finished with the lighting system.

Nice!!

Thats a **** of a nice setup Kerf! I have some questions Kerf if I may,Are you using a regular automotive flasher unit like the kind that plugs into the fuse panel on cars (metal cylinder shape)? and is it mounted inside the gray switch box on the front of your bike? are you using a small lead acid sealed battery that you simply hook up a charger to when it gets low? thanks Mac

Just a standard two prong thermal flasher and yes it's inside the control box. The power is a 12v / 5ah AGM, there's a connector on the side of the battery case that I plug a 3 amp charger into. Takes about 1 hour to take it from 50% to full charge. Here's a peek inside my control box.

You the man. Your legal in any state you choose to ride. Great thinking! I may swipe some of your ideas in my build.
