Does anyone know where I can find an extra wide one pc crank ? Without having the cranks installed in the bike frame (50's Hiawatha/Gambles) I can already tell the pedals are going to hit the engine ...Is there a simple answer to this problem out there?

Thanks

Try http://www.bicycle-engines.com ......he use to sell the good 1 piece/wide cranks but sold out really quickly.Knowing Jeremy he probably has an incomplete one laying around that u can possibly canabalize the existing components (or buy new ones)
Doesn't hurt to ask;he's a member here,"biketec"

BTW...make sure if u get one that it's going to fit.

Amazon has a crank that has 5 1/2 arms that is wide enough to fit. Made by pyramid. they also have a 6 1/2 that might fit. The pic on the 6 1/2 shows both styles.

The kind that fits nicely looks like two identical Ls instead of different curves and the ends of the arms are squared off.

Also found on many department store bikes.

I used a 5 1/2 set from a crappy 24 inch Roadmaster mt bike on my 1941 columbia. 39 t front 18 t in back.

Keeps your feet closer together and gives better ground clearance. Works suprizeingly well as a bicycle.

What sort of engine are you using - 2-stroke or 4-stroke? It helps if you state this but as far as I know the nice 1 piece Ashtabula style wide crank is available only from China Gas. Since they switched the 1 piece for the 3 piece in the 4-stroke kits it has created a lot of problems for anyone with the gift of eyesight.
Bicycle-Engines.Com have the 1 piece at the moment cos I ordered two last month. I recommend you beef up the bearings to a heavier duty from your local bike shop cos the ordinary bearings fail due to the increased pressure & leverage from the wide crank.
Grubee told me the change to 3 piece cranks was at the request of Bicycle-Engines.com - they are a dog of a crank and they probably are responsible for the dog in BirdDog!
