I talked today with a whizzer dealer in Indiana and he informed me of the upcoming changing law there. Anything under 49cc will be considered a moped and will need to be license, title, insurance and driver license and the state troopers will be enforcing the new law with tickets. :geek:

Can you supply a link to your new laws?

Salesman Have been known to embellish things, from time to time....as needed. :)

I was thinking along the same lines as srdavo.

As a wise man once told me, "If someone tells you they saw a pink elephant, that's fine.
But you better go see for yourself."

I contacted the whizzer dealer to clarify where he got his information.
He refered to a motorized bicycle without pedals will be considered as a scooter. A lot of highway and interstate roads in this area with no bicycle lanes. I guess I will have to wait till January to see what happens around there.

A comedian once said, " He went to the circus and saw Siamese twin
elephants. I hope he wasn't refering to one elephant with tusks and the other without tusks.

your state DMV office

well -- a motorized bicycle without pedals in most any state would be called a mop-head, scooter or something other than what most of us ride

Your state main office of DMV should be able to guide you right to the correct information needed

ride that THING

What is this world coming too... You cant even stick a small engine on your bicycle when you lose your license...... BOOOOOOOOOOO!

I'll look into it, but some things strike me as "BS"

First, new Indiana laws usually take effect on July 1. Occasionally, January 1, but never January 10.

Second, Whizzers are motorcycles under Indiana law now because they are over 49 ccs. In Indiana, anything over 49 ccs is now, and has been for years, a motorcycle. Also, any scooter that is designed to go over 25 mph (engine size irrelevant) is a motorcycle- that is not new.

Third, mopeds and scooters under 49 ccs do not need to be registered, titled or insured in Indiana now.

I have been a licensed attorney in Indiana for over 10 years and I have more than a passing interest in this subject....but like I said, I'll look into it. It is possible something slipped by me.

i tend to agree with HoughMade. this whole thing strikes me as pure BS.

motorcycle dealers in this state are WELL known for propagating dis-information esp. about market segments they have no control over nor hope of profit from.

being involved in the custom / HP motorcycle scene i regularly talk to dealers and salesmen who are ****ED that i have info that they don't or that contradicts the bunk they're talking.

it's the information age, i'll never understand how people think that others can't or won't know where to look to get at the truth.

i checked this out online last night and could not find a shred of evidence concerning the changes that were originally mentioned.

HoughMade, please keep us posted about your investigations.

thanks,
steve

OK- back at the office and I have searched the Indiana Code through Westlaw. As I expected, there is no new Indiana regarding mopeds or motorized bicycles going into effect on January 10, 2009, and no new law pending at all.

There is some discussion of police officers more vigorously enforcing the over 25mph, over 49 ccs limit for mopeds, scooters and motorized bicycles in the current law, but no new laws.

In Indiana, the law remains- 2hp and under, 49 ccs and under, under 25 mph- no title, registration or insurance. Over the limits in any of those categories and it is a motorcycle subject to all the same laws as any motorcycle.
