Winter road rash

Well I dumped my bike today going probably 20 mph. I started picking up some speed down a hill and tried to keep the front wheel straight but it didnt work. The road had most of the snow cleared off. i must have hit a patch of solid ice or maybe that tar they put down to seal up cracks or whatever its for. That stuff gets real slippery.
It's hard to walk. Tomorrow my leg is probably going to be black and blue. I'm slowing down from now on. 20 mph on a bike in the winter is too fast! Even if the road appears to be clear, you never know when you will hit a patch of ice. At least there is no damage to the bike. I'd say it's time to swap my 40T sprocket with my 50T sprocket for the winter. I need to have more low end power so I don't have to ride too fast for conditions to keep the engine in the power band.

Good thing there wasn't a car following me close. I could have easily got run over! I'm just laughing about it and being thankful it wasn't worse. I think that crash is what I needed to wise up and stop being over confident about my riding skills! Now I will be paranoid of falling every time i ride in slippery conditions. I am taking it as a valuable lesson learned.

Yup, a "valuable lesson learned". I'm glad you weren't hurt too badly.

Probably the worst thing about winter riding is that you must slow down a great deal.

Still, you're out there living life and not allowing winter to defeat you. You've got it over on the folks who think you're (we're) nuts and then shuffle out to their car, thinking "Jeez, it's cold out here".

But that won't be so great, of course, if you break a leg or worse. So definitely slow down. Then it'll all be worth it.

Careful with gearing down too much, you may encounter the opposite problem where instead of having the front tire slip out from underneath you the rear will spin out and you'll be on your arse or doing the superman real fast.
20 is definitely too fast in extreme weather. You should have known better. But whatever, at least you're okay and your ride doesn't need any repairs.

Yesterday on my trike there was this sharp right turn on the trails and it kept going straight. I almost went past the trail and into the Platte River.
It was exciting.
It gave me a scare.
Then it was fun when I finally stopped.
I laughed right there.
(sigh)

It's snowing here right now. The bike is staying in the garage.
Glad to hear that you suffered nothing more than road rash, it could have been worse. Just imagine if they had laid down some salt before you took your spill. Talk about stinging pain!

Amatures, ya know Kilroy.

They get lake effect once a year out there.

Good thing he didn't land on his but. Imagine that bruise on his sphincter! oooOOHHCH!

I could hear him howlin after eatin the taco from here!

Get well soon Simon! Neosporan and ice Brother!
P.S. read my advice below this post!
