Constructing a Scooter towable Trailer question(s).

I would like your feedback on building a Trailer which would be attached to either a Vespa GT-200 or an Aprilia Scarabeo 500. The Trailer would be used to transport one or two Motorized Bicycles. If possible, I would like to use 26 inch Bicycle tires / rims on the Trailer. Putting the Trailer together seems doable. The areas where I need feedback are:

Can / will Bicycle 26 inch tires / rims survive moving at 60 to 65 miles per hour?

Suggestions that you might offer on the Trailers construction?

I think the problem with bicycle rims is that the metal cup that the wheel bearing ride on is very thin. Why not look for used moped wheels that are close to as tall as you would like. I'm a nut but pulling a trailer like that at those speeds is asking for trouble.

Trying to reduce the number of different parts.

I am hopping to find a commonality of parts so when required, I can swap parts back and forth if necessary.

Bicycle wheels under a load like that would likely be very unstable as well. That trailer would probably sway pretty badly.

This guy worked on a jackshaft made out of a hub for months, trying 8 different "tries" before giving up on the idea. Like I said above, the metal is way too thin. It's just stamped thin walled metal. This guy was the most amazing electric bike builder I had ever seen, building the frames and parts from scratch and his threads would turn into 30 page builds. I'm not trying to poo poo your idea but I don't think anyone will think it's a good idea. I picture you going down the road at that speed and all of a sudden, your trailer pulls you off the road ..

agree with most of the above

don't waste you time and we wish not to hear about you being wrecked up somewhere

for loads and speed such as that -- bicycle wheels would be a mistake

there should be MANY good type of wheels available -- trailer wheels etc...

and note -- that will be one heck of a THING that you are pulling there

please be careful as you ride that THING

I have pulled this trailer several thousand miles. Trust me you don't want to mess around pulling a loaded trailer on two wheels. Run as many lights on your trailer as you can. You want a nice long tongue to prevent the trailer from "seeking" or swaying. I lengthened this one three feet. Make sure the brakes on the tow vehicle are more than adequate. If one of your hubs fail while at speed, with a load... You are going down. Please be careful. :helmet:

This trailer goes on sale at Harbor freight from time to time for 180.00 It comes with lights and a title. It has worked great for me. I think it weighs about 150 pounds empty.

That's for sure. It took some getting used to.
