Australian legislation/regulations/ADRs

Australian regulatory agencies together with the Australian Bicycle Council have been working to review legislation affecting power-assisted bicycles.

In Australia, the motor vehicle regulatory framework has the effect of prohibiting motorized cycles except bicycles with power-assist to 200 watts, conventional motorcycles and mopeds.

We'll have an on-line forum chat about it on-line Thursday 15-Jan-09 from 9:00 pm Eastern Australia Time and see what comes out of it. Visit social group "Australian legal/regulation/ADR interest group"

If you are interested in participating, take a look at the HybriPed website

Cheers, Greg

I've been riding a 2-stroke to work for 18 months. So far I've been lucky, but I must say that I'm uncomfortable every time the police pass by.

I'd like to see the issue sorted out.

I'm in Hobart, and it is not feasible to cycle everywhere. You've simply got to have assistance or take a car or scooter if you've got one.

How about you?

I'm in Adelaide...and did get pulled over...and my drivers licence details entered in police puter ..so next pull over will come thru on check that been officially cautioned...ie directly to court

do you have any communication via internet programs like ventrilo or teamspeak?

Do you think that the police in Adelaide are toughening up? Were you doing anything to draw attention to yourself (wheel stands, 100 kph etc etc)

32kph though officer said 39.. nope was just running in my engine
he had done some work on subject and on calling traffic section they are using as as rough guide 30cc or under = 200 watts = around 27kph
