I notice that the 'Board track' style of machine is quite popular on the forum...

Being a 'Limey' I was sort of unaware of this sport of yester-year:rolleyes: but, I have become fascinated by the machines that have been inspired by it...
Why not revive it for 50/80cc machines...?
All it would need is several well ventilated (outdoor) velodromes in different parts of the country and you've got a national series...

I have to take my medication now...

I love this idea. Get me an old leather football helmet and a cool wool sweater with a team name and I'm there.
Unfortunately though...I think death was a common side-effect of this style racing which is why you don't see it anymore.
Who cares I'm still in.

hey there Spaceman motor bike guy

velodromes would be great fun for all -- riders and those watching
we have a very nice outdoor velodrome here in San Diego
have thought about it many times
one problem that I see would be ANY oil left on track
those bicycle riders would not like that
and they truly think that velodrome belongs only to them

hey with those meds -- careful as you ride
dui's given for drinking and meds also
don't want you to be riding your motor bike to dui school

have fun as you ride that thing

An indoor wooden velodrome just opened in Boulder Co. I was looking at it for two reasons. 1 I want to try track racing. 2 I want to get them to host a board track race.

There is talk of an outdoor velodrome being opened some where else in Boulder as well. How cool would it be to race around the dirt track before the cement was poured!!!

IIRC. A while a go, there was a program on the History Channel (?) about the history of motorcycles and covered the boardtrack racing era and it's demise. The tracks were found to be too high maintainence and many deaths occured because of loose boards creating accidents or impaling the riders. The tracks just couldn't hold up to the heavy use, abuse and weight of the machines.

Board Racing without the boards

Just last weekend (June 13 '09) I took my 4 converted cruisers to Moose Mountain Speedway near Syracuse NY. They have a small (1/10 mile or so) dirt track that was made for lawnmower and go-kart racing. We had a lot of fun and were invited back for their next race June 27th. The same day we were invited to 2 other similar tracks in the same area. One in West Amboy racing on Friday 6 19, and another near Central Square which hasn't opened for racing yet but is practicing on Sundays until they do. We went to practice and I have to say, the track is awesome! We cant wait to get back.
