Tubes Flat Tire (Poll)

I had 2 flats last spring through fall. Weird thing is, never on the road.
Both times I came out to go for a ride in the morning and "what the heck?"
An air sucking fairy must have visited me in the night.

I didnt even mess with finding the leak. Just replaced the tubes both times.

from an old tire guy....

It's always a good idea to find the leak.... mark your valve stem location on your tire for reference.... then look the tire & rim over....for the thorn, spoke, burr....what ever caused your flat in the first place.

tip.... drag a tissue around the inside of your tire.... a thorn or sliver of metal...whatever (in your tire), will snag a bit of tissue. Remove the thorn & you're good to go. This will prevent a repeat flat.

Great tip, wisely said. HaHaHa, my brother in law said here's a picure of me....:rolleyes:LOL

I've had two flats in the last two years, picked up a piece of metal each time. 99% of my driving is on pavement.

Darn air sucking fairies.:D:D

Thanks everyone for the responses so far. This gives me a good idea of how many tubes and tires I should have on hand at all times.

3 mos., 2 flats, 1 will riding. The other flat was after a joy ride my sister took the next day I noticed something wrong when walking my bike out to the street (it was very early AM) my commute ruined. Later that day I managed to get what appeared to be a 3 inch long nail out of the tire. I kept it because I was amazed how such a long object which was probably flat on the ground introduced itself into the tire (back). I replced it with one of those self sealing tires which on my way from work one day did nothing but spew out blue stuff. I guess it kept me from losing control by not going flat as fast. I have since bought a Bell brand tire with a layer of Kevlar as the box indicates. The tires are really thick and appear to be what I needed for the mean and often debris filled streets of L.A. Oh, and from now on I carry 2 spare inner tubes, a pump and a patch kit! Good luck to all!

1 only ever had 1 flat on my motored bike.
that was within the 1st 50miles. but havent had one since iv swaped to thorn proof tubes. that was bout 250miles ago

Over 2,000 miles flat free ( knock on wood ) lots of broken glass on the streets I ride.
It seems like most flats I had previous to this where on new tires, under 100 miles.
They seem to be a little softer when new and after a hundred miles they toughen up.
But now days I run Kevlar belted tires, Tuffys tire lines and slime tubes. the extra cost is well worth it. Although I do have a spare tube, patch kit, and CO2 cartridges in my road bag (just in case). Better prepared than walking the bike home. By the way it is my main mode of transport rain or shine.

More Smiles to the Mile...
