I am looking to purchase a "retro" looking motor bike and considering a new Whizzer but have questions. I will use it to sight see on back roads and some may not be paved but would be no bader than what you could ride a plain bicycle on. My concerns are;
1) Horsepower at 4000 - 6500 feets elevation and rejet needed.
2) Wheel strenght on washboarded gravel roads.
3) Frame size - I am 6 foot 210 pound (food is plentiful in US).
4) I read in other places that the Whizzer rear suspension is "inadequate or doesn't function" - true?
5) Also read that the new NE5 has "nervous handling". What does this mean?
6) Tire size (width and strength)?

This motor bike would be used for slow speed sight seeing (25 mph max) but may be used half life on wash board gravel roads.

Should I be looking else where at other motor bikes for this purpose or build one (moneys is somewhat a concern as well is time). I have read about some built from bikes purchased from Walmart or other business using engine kits.

Please advise.

Thank you.

(English is not my primary language so please excuse but I am in America and English is what I will only speak here. I can get confused to think in different languages and speak in an other. I hope you know what you have in your country)

Hey Gypsy,

For your needs you don't need a Whizzer.

A plain 21-speed mountain bike with full suspension, 1.6hp engine and belt or chain drive would satisfy all your needs at a modest price.

Using a Whizzer on washboard gravel roads would be like driving a Ferrari on dirt and muddy roads.

That's just my opinion, Gypsy.

sounds good up on the mountain top

I am running about the same THING as mentioned
but I have a (friction drive -- not as good in the dirt)

changes that could be made to stock bicycle may be as follows
heavy duty tires, throrn proof tubes with tire liners
stronger spokes in the rear wheel -- not necessary -- just a thought

and you are more that ready to ride that THING in the dirt
cost -- just over half of what a Whizzer cost

Yeah; agreed. A good multi-speed, full suspension (adjustable), with a suspension seat post, and good comfortable saddle. Combined with a good little 50cc, 1.5 or so, engine kit would be just the thing. I've been through the lower portion of Wyoming on a motored bike- you're not kidding about those washboard roads. After getting out of the saddle at the end of the day I felt like I had been roundly beaten and abused with a stick; my kidneys still haven't forgiven me that! Definitely needs suspension...

I just had a horrid image of a monster truck Ferrari... GAHHHHH!!! That's a great and funny analogy...!
