If I get a motor kit, are there any recommendations for upgrades to the rest of the "bicycle bits"? Tyres, wheels, brakes etc.?

Should a bicycle in good condition be ok to just drop the kit in and go?

Thanks.

I put about $80-$100 in wheel/tube upgrades, put 12 gauge spoked wheels on back, punctureproof and line the tires, cushion all the spoke-ends...

When you look at a thread like this one for "wheels":

down at the bottom there is a box with 5 "similar threads", and you can be pretty savvy after reading about spokes and tires.....

agreed... wheels and brakes need to be as good as you can get them
headset and crank bearings should be re-packed in grease as well (can't hurt)

Get decent tyres, properly line the rims with rimtape. Puncture proof tubes (flats at walking pace are fine. Motoredbike pace, not).
Change the front forks and rim with a disk brake variant.
Engineer some decent mounts for the engine, the factory ones are carp.
Get good lights so cagers can see you, you will be travelling faster than the average bicyclist, so they need to see you better.

Repack every bearing with a ton of grease, we tend to travel further, faster than normal, and the bikes are heavier.

That will do for a start.
