Not happy with GEBE

I got a new GEBE kit in tonight it all looks very nice but I ordered the longer axle and it comes with nuts and no cones!

I take my cones off the wheel I'm putting it on and they wont thread on.

For the money they charge it would be very smart to include anything one might need to make it fit. Especially a small thing like cone nuts.

sure don't sound right -- does it ???

no cones!

sure don't sound right -- does it ???
somebody forget to add the cones to your order ???
do the cones cost extra ???
if so someone forgot to tell you ???

thinking that a phone call to them and possibly
you may have them tomorrow with over night mail ???

or the local bicycle shop -- as we know ???

things like this sure do seem to happen a lot these days !!!!!!!!!!!
I think that I am getting used to it............................................

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. I'm pretty sure that you'll need the cones off of a quick release axle. The axle that GEBE sells are supposed to replace a quick release axle. I doubt if they sell the cones so you might have to get them from a bike shop.

I found some that did work and they came off a quick release. The extra long axle I bought did not replace a quick release though so I now have to replace the cones off that quick release.

What should have been a quick install turned into an all night job. I'll put it in my review.

maybe we should clear something up...from golden eagle's site, part description:
Fine Axle: $12 Plus $4 Shipping and handling.
Replacement axles for the quick release type wheels. Stronger and longer to accomodate our rear mount strap and other accessories you may want to add. 10mm X 7 & 1/4" Hardened steel w/nuts.
1.0mm Thread- fine/Specialty bikes.

imo, the description & picture seem technically detailed enuff...

it looks like you had all the info you needed...it also seems you weren't quite prepared, or perhaps you incorrectly assumed some details. apparently, it took most of the night to assess and solve...i think we've all put ourselves in similar situations, and we wind up shaking our fist at the sky, cussin' out anyone convenient...but we all eventually cool down and think things over...

let's be fair, are you certain this is really Golden Eagle's fault?

First off I will say I am very very impressed by the GEBE set up I was sent. I will have much more to say on the positive aspects of GEBE later.

I think it would be good to state in the description that one might need to buy cone nuts. Buyers do replace shorter axles as well not just quick release.

But yes the description was accurate so I can't complain much more. Except I will make another critiscism of the kill switch in my final review.

Bottom line is GEBE service and product are in a league of their own in lotsa ways. They really make everyone else look like amateurs, except Staton products maybe. But Staton cant hold a candle to GEBE service so...

I may have been PO'd I had to find the cone nuts I needed but GEBE really makes an amazing product along with providing great customer service.
