New GEBE Robin noisy

About 10 miles on this new GEBE Robin EHO35 and its been noisy since the first ride.

It sounds like the engine itself but its hard to isolate the source, could be clutch or something. It happens under most any load but somewhat goes away under no load. I can lift the rear wheel up to freespin and it goes away.

Sounds like knocking/pinging/clattering like crankshaft bearing under pressure or something. Like your lifters knocking in a car. Kinda messes up an otherwise nice quiet system.

Anyone else have a noisy GEBE Robin?

I have a Robin EHO35 on a Staton friction drive

The noise is coming from the centrifigal clutch
The clutch shoes are ringing on the drum until they lock up
Also your shoes are probably still seating in
Maybe your drum isn't that round?

Mine was already broken in when i got it and it isn't too noisy

nice quiet system.

I've had several. It was always the clutch. The clutch bell or drum had a ping like..well a bell or drum, that disappeared after break in, maybe 20 hrs use.
The only thing I ever did was adjust the idle a bit lower.

Ok the clutch was my original diagnosis, I thought the noise sounded like it came from there.

I think mine idles too high even though I adjusted it all the way out and the idle screw doesnt even touch the arm.

I guess this means I need to ride to get rid of that noise.

Thanks

clutch rattle

i would reroute your throttle cable.that motor should idle quite low and quiet.

I just remembered something, not sure if it applies. Are you at altitude?
I had several long conversations with a Robin America tech about these engines and he said they come from the factory set for sea level.
The Walbro carbs have no adjustments other than idle and he stated the only compensation for altitude would be re-jetting.

Hmm yea maybe right but I rode it here then down low in Texas on a trip and back here it was the same.

Wonder where to get jets?

The cable is loose and been rerouted but the same, I think I just need to shorten the housing maybe.

i think you could research walbro's stuff & find a bolt-on carby better/exactly suited to your environment.

from my experience with the (only 3, all at sea-level) EHO35, i found the clutch to be noisier than the engine itself. some of it may be break-in, but i bet you need to adjust throttle-cable for a full throw, then bring your idle down until there's no "ringing"...and if you got the new clutch with your kit, i'm positive it's not out-of-round, den's holding the new maker to some exacting tolerances.

My gebe clutch makes a little noise with the tanaka 32.
You get used to it and mine got better after 500 miles.
and my engine got way stronger after 500..

the sound used to bother me too

The noise is coming from the centrifigal clutch

yes -- my centrifigal clutch was also noisy for the first few hundred miles or so

I have kind of forgotten when
I haven't noticed it for a very long time now

all in all -- fairly smooth running today

possibly the best THING to do
do not worry about it as you

ride the MB thing
