Different Handlebars on a cruiser?

I agree about handlebars; the typical beach cruiser setup is not quite right. Though I dislike them in terms of comfort more than looks.

Years ago I went down to my local bike shop and got a set of handlebars that I'm still using on one of my motorbikes. They rise and turn back more than a mountain bike style, but less than your typical cruiser. They're on a beach cruiser right now and they don't look out of place, but my bike's a lot more comfortable.

Just last night I saw some similar ones at bikeworldusa.com Don't remember prices, but they weren't expensive.

I'm the exact opposite, but I blame my rural-ness, 10 miles from the nearest coke machine.

I found that having the arms extended in front, on straightish mountain bike type handlebars, my throttle/right arm started to tingle after 30-40 minutes, and WOT at full speed, being bent over kind of irritated the lower spine.

Discovering multi-speed cruisers, like the one in your pic, solved both problems, and then, with further modifications, like replacing cheap grips, wider saddles, etc. it kept getting better each and every build.

I agree with Bamabikeguy...tingling fingers and a killer back ache.So I went with the stingray type monkey bars felt great and looked cool but ya better hope you don't have to make a quick turn!!So my final choice was a set of higher rise BMx bars from a old Schwinn Scrambler which works great for me.You can also cut down those cruiser bars so they don't hit your knees. anybody have pics of that type of handlebar on a cruiser?

The bikeworldusa type are pretty much the compromise, between full curved cruiser type and mountain....I've bought a similar angled from my bike shop for about $10, and didn't have to change out the cabling.

The other pic looks like it came from a "bike junkyard", which you may find EVERY area has guys with 20-50 bikes in his yard. I've got 3 such guys within 20 miles of the house, where you might find such parts for modification.

Check flea market vendors, they might give you a name or two, where you can find those cheap, and if not, they surely are in a bike shop catalog.

Smallblock,

Yes, I think there's a photo of the handlebars I was talking about in my photo gallery entry.
It would be on my second build.

Those bars you linked to at bikeworldusa look to me like the exact same bars, provided those "pull back" a bit and are not perpendicular to the length of the bike. That would be more like mountain bike style, and that does produce sore wrists, sore back, etc.
