Walgreens/Wmart stainless bottles + bottle cages $5

Havnt used bottles yet but wanted to on my GEBE and found these. Beautiful bottles in black, stainless, red, blue

750 Milliliters = 25.36051705318041 Ounces

Couple weeks back I went in to buy the Wmart cages with rubber strap for the bottles I was gonna buy and it rang $1! Went back and cleaned em out for 5 cages.

Question is what do you think of the bottles? Will they work? I filled one last night and turned it upside down and this morn all seemed well but...

For sure I would replace the soft plastic o-ring seal? What about the screw cap? Doesnt seem to be harming the plastic or leeching any plastic into the fuel.

Did I get the whole deal for $5 or not?

I was using a SS water bottle with a poly cap. Not this one, however. Looked like it would hold fuel. However, after a month with gas, the poly top expanded and was difficult to take off. After I had it off, the cap wouldn't thread back on properly. It mis-threaded and bits of poly landed up in my bottle and tank. I suggest only using a bottle designed specifically for fuel. Sorry to be a buzz kill.
 
Ok. I hear ya...I was just hopin not to spend the money. :)

But thats how I learned to spend money over the years of buildin bikes. The more I spend on builds, unfortunately, the quality rises.

Aint that always the way?

Yeah, sometimes though, it's cheaper to pay more the first time. Been there, I usually double the price by trying the cheapest thing first. Sigh...can't always see it coming.

I think that seals the deal for the bottle. If it's as inert a substance to not leach into water then I'm almost sure it'll handle gasoline for quite awhile. Stainless steel is a definite positive in my book as well. Great find! 750ml is a rather large bottle though. If you can secure it properly to the bike it'll ensure many miles of smiles on an MB. Don't count on those walmart cages (or any, for that matter) to hold a bottle of this size by itself though. A secondary means of securing the bottle is in order.

Yup thats why I started with center mount chingens years ago and now don't build them for the most part.

They do still have their place in my builds but I just got to the point where I would rather ride than wrench, rather fly than fix.

Its a great bottle but the lid must prove itself, thats the possible weak point. Plastics come in so many composites who knows which will resist gasoline?

Now if I had something gas proof to paint the lid with.....?
