Problem: back of bike, where the rear wheel slides in, is too narrow for the axle.

Solution?: spread the rear forks/whatever and weld in a bar to bridge the gap you create.

Anybody else had to do this? Suggestions?

I saw a topic about it awhile ago.

Search around. Maybe someone here has the link.

Basically, take a 2x4 and find a way to leverage it on the rear stays and the upper tube of the frame, then do it again to the other side, about the same distance

yep many ways work

a long threaded all thread bolt
nuts with washers inside
start turning the nuts out -- pushes frame out pretty easy

if troubles -- tie bolt to frame area -- so as not to let it slip out

Many Ways

A pressure treated 4 x 4 and a ratchet strap.

Muscle power, lots of sweat and a heck of a lot of cussing. Make sure your kids aren't around. :D

actually a very easy job to do

actually a very easy job to do
in the bike shop days
it never took more than a minute or two
but I will admit if doing this to my own bike today
I may take up to five minutes

((not wanting to bend only one side of frame)) -- (((((that's not good)))))

just ((a little bend)) ((on both sides))
