I had a hole in my muffler gasket the other day and it gave me the same power if i removed the baffle and now i am addicted to that improvement. I think i have a newer pipe with the cat and the baffle welded inside, because the end cap is welded on and does not simply screw off.. how do you properly remove the baffle on a pipe like this ... and will removing my baffle kill my engine sooner or is it a safe mod to do... thank you

well patrick
my cousins happy time muffler fell apart a while back
he said that it had so much more power
around 35 miles later he was complaining that he had a major loss of power

did he make toast out of it because of not enough back pressure ??

MM

You need a fair bit of backpressure, however th stock pipe is a bit restrictive. I reckon you'd be better off drilling a few small holes. Thats what I did.

Since my pipe is the kind that is welded were do i drill the holes... in the cap or side?

Hello there Scribbles, I would disreccomend takin out your baffle. You can get same performance just drilling three {3} 1/8" holes around perimeter at end of pipe. It won't be crazy loud like baffle removal, and baffle will still give you back pressure- which you need. Mountain man is right on ruining motor down the road. good luck

ok i think that is what i am going to do since it is safe, easy and quiet.. any one have pictures of their pipes after they drilled them... also i am just drilling the surface metal and not through and thing in side..

start with ((just one)) very small hole -- test and ride

once you have drilled out too much -- as you know -- you can't go back

MM

well -- chances are -- if you notice that the THING is just darn right loud

you have probably went to far -- with the drilling

note BSA's post -- good sound thinking

drill a little -- maybe one 3/16 hole -- see what you got -- maybe another drilled ??

the key would be -- don't go too far -- always stay to the safe side

easy for me to say -- but -- have I always kept THINGS to the safe side ?? no !!

i did 3 little 1/8inch holes and i can barley hear a difference but it does have some more pick up....
