Hi,
I joined so I could learn some more about final drive solutions for the electric bike I plan to make. I've got a 2.3kW electric motor and most of the other bits I need, but I'm not sure how to get that power to the rear wheel just yet. I'd like to do belt drive if I can, in order to remain silent, but we'll see. Mounting this motor is tricky because it is wide.
Thanks for the info!

Hi and welcome to MBc.
Yep, getting power to the rear wheel. Let us know how you make out and I'd be curious to see what you come up with. Good luck with your project.

While sitting on the floor with it wheels up, I think I came up with an idea that I could implement this weekend with some U bolts and ghetto engineering. I just realized that #40 chain will ride on a bike sprocket, albeit way too wide and probably not very well. I've already got some #40 chain and a #40 12T sprocket on my motor, so I could drive the big chainring on my bike with my motor bolted/hanging on the top tube. Innnteresting. Too bad the hardware store will be closed tomorrow, I bet. I will opt to not run it at full voltage with this setup, though, if I try it. I'm still not sure that the in-frame mounting is going to be possibly with body position, but a test ride makes me think it is doable as long as I don't mind consciously keeping body parts away from the motor and chain. Thanks for the welcome!
