So I am about to buy a motor and was wondering what the differences are between the 2 stroke motors (besides displacement). I noticed there are newer ones that are EPA approved and have catalitic converters and better bearings. Does anyone know if the old style exhaust flows better then the cat ones? Price is also a big concern for me. I just want the most bang for my buck speed wise. Any info is greatly appreciated.

I think I will go with the 80/67 cc slant head motor. Looking at some posts, it seems like the only fitment issues (head gasket) are from people converting from std to slant head. Does anyone have pros/ cons for these motors compared to the others? Thanks!

bang fr the buck ???

I just want the most bang for my buck speed wise.

bang for your buck
if only spending a little over a hundren dollars do we expect to get long lasting buck bang ??
and knowing what we do here on site
you (((will probably))) get a hundred dollars worth of riding out of it ???
buck bang if we may call it that is a total gamble on these HT things

many good threads regarding probable expected miles received from HT

only a very few it seems get to ride 1,000 miles without some kind of problem
my cousins HT broke down prox 3 times in four days ?? not really that happy

speed wish -- you want the larger 66cc or what ever they call that THING

not trying to put the Happy Times down
but I think that just maybe I have ridden too many quality 2 wheels with motors in my life ??

ride that thing

Well it's no surprise that a 2 stroke motor made in China might be junk haha. I'm just going to take the gamble and go for the slant head motor. I heard the shiney pipe makes it more reliable  I'll just have to ride with a backpack full of tools or something. Thanks for the input, all!

Pay a little more and buy a Grubee kit. Still far from "mil spec", but from what I've seen, they are worth it. (Less vibration, more consistent quality, etc.)

Well look at the bright side

when it blows up your only out about 150 bucks...
:giggle:

"I kid, I kid....." (couldn't help it. saw your avatar). :D
Haha - Triumph rules!

In any case, I have sold dozens of these HT engines locally and haven't had my house burned down from angry customers.

I provide a supplemental instruction sheet on how to mount the engine without stripping out the hardware and detailed maintenance procedures.(like periodically checking head torque, etc.) I also rejet all 66cc engines because I have found that they suffer from lean bog at WFO because the factory uses the exact same carb as the 50cc models. (the 50cc models don't need any mods) All this has led to a low failure rate. I have seen some burned up clutches from improper adjustment (constantly slipping), some broken clutch handles (from bikes falling over), cables not cut the right size, and even some blown engines. The blown engines were from the "speed demons" that were running WFO down hills and revving the tar out of them. About three catastrophic failures so far, so the failure rate is under three percent.

I may go 4 stroke when my current stock of two strokes is depleted. I think the local market here is slowing down.......
