Lieutenant Kelly Anderson

I recently bought a very small gas engine for my

bicycle 1.6 horsepower aprox. speed 20 mph

It is to my understanding from reading the DMV

handbook in regards to motorized bicycles

that I can ride WITHOUT A CALIF. DRIVERS LICENSE

is this correct ?

Have a blessed day, Bob B

Mr. B, I checked with one of our traffic officers in regards to your question. You are correct in the fact that you can ride your bike with the motor attached without a driver’s license. You still have the same rules and regulations that bicycles have to follow and other then that you are good to go. Thanks, Lt. Anderson

and it's to my understanding that this officer was wrong

maybe there is some major leg pulling going on -- truly don't need any license ????

how the heck am I suppose to know better than to

ride the heck out of that thing ??!! drivers license or not ??

just remember some municipalities can enact local laws concerning the topic at hand.

Just look at http://www.municode.com and find your county and state and city and check your local laws.

it's all been said so many times

yes you are very right
there are also cities and such within the state that can do what they wish
as a matter of fact we have two of these cities right close to us

one is known as La Mesa
been making up there own laws for a long dong time
building codes there -- known to be more than tight
I hear say and it's very easy to believe
they don't allow any motorized bicycles over there
I still ride through occasionally
how the heck am I supposed to know about every little cities off the wall law ???
if I or we get a ticket on a (((((legal))))) MB
won't the judge just through it out ??????

wouldn't know where to find it now
somewhere in a post I shared just that
my friend did get a ticket for riding a motorized bicycle without any drivers license
the judge threw it out

There are cities that require anyone with a deeded property to OWN a gun, and there are states that lock people away for 2 years of their life (minimum sentence) for possessing them. Friend of mine was locked up (gets out November of this year) for such an offense. Hope he relieves himself at the state line (is it illegal to send feces in the mail?). The "United" States is a bunch of little kingd"u"ms, as is each state. Sad, as we ride those things.

I took your idea MM and emailed the person in charge of the SDPD.

I have recently purchased a small gas engine for my Schwinn mountain bike to assist me in pedaling. The engine is 1.6hp and has a top speed of approximately 20mph. I've been reading the DMV handbook and looking up the CA DMV laws online and to my understanding I can ride this motor assisted bicycle without a California Driver License and all that is necessary is a helmet. Is this correct? Thank you very much
Kinda used your words but changed and added some other word. :)
