I just got into motorized biking, and after my first bike was destroyed do to the coster brake/wheel hub issues, I bought a 7-speed point beach cruiser from walmart. Everything has seemed to be working quite well with this set up. I'm already getting kind of bored of topping out at 25 mph or so. My question is; Will the point beach cruiser work with a shift kit (the engine is the 66 CC 2-stroke)? Has anyone tried it? and would it just be better to buy a 36 tooth sprocket as opposed to the 44 tooth that it came with?

Thanks a lot!

Edit: Sorry, should this go in the Frame-Mounted Drive-Trains section?

There is no comparison changing sprocket to shift kit. The shift kits are the bomb!!! Not just in riding but if you need to change a tube/tire that is so much easier as well.

Sounds cool, would you happen to have any pictures?
I'm really considering it.

Here's some pictures of my bike I just went and snapped really quickly..
It's pretty much my first build, if you don't count my other bike (cranbrook) that died in 4 days. There are wires hanging all over the place :D

Thanks!

It is the best upgrade ever. You'll have to ditch the one piece crank and chain guard, but will be a piece of cake. Buy the kit and the conversion together, you will not regret it!

Nope! If you goto the sick bike parts download section they have a bottom bracket explanation document that shows it all.

You have the one piece style cranks, you need to remove them, and put the kit in. It is only like $20. The shift kit comes with a new crank and crank arms.

and oh, I did the same with my beach cruiser, went to a 36 sprocket, and I could break 30, but then did the shift kit on my mountain bike and cruise at 45 easily :)

I'm not so sure I should do it... I want healthy bike parts. :D
That's a lot of money :/
I'll think it over.
