I see a lot of bikes here are very similar with a big space in the center of the frame for the motor. Can you only use a specific bike, or can I start with my regular schwinn mountain bike?

I'm a huge grease monkey and can't wait to buy a kit and mess around but i don't want to get a kit and realize it won't fit my bike.

Kits will fit in any standard 26" bicycle. Think of old school bikes though. The new ones at wal mart with THICK tubing will not work or take custom modifications to make it work. That's why a lot of people use beach cruisers for builds, as they have plenty of room for the engine to sit. My mountain bike install is a tight one because my downshaft tubing on my bike is thick making less room for the install. Look around on the forums, i'm sure you will find your bike with an engine on it.

For a first build you want something w/ front and rear calipers(brakes), no coasters,no rear suspensions. You want a heavy duty frame made out of steel and rims w/thick spokes!

Whats wrong with rear suspension now? jfaz mentions hes a grease monkey im sure modifying or fabricating from scratch a spring loaded chain tensioner wont be too much effort and riding a MTB with front AND rear suspensions is ALOT LOT more comfy than without.

Three reasons: They are
1 Safety
2 Safety
3 Safety

My fourth is I personally don't want to be responcible for the loss on one of our new members because I told him to take on a more advanced build. I think it's a better idea for him to start out slow and get his feet wet rather than risk serious injury.
