A couple of dumpster finds

Well I have a couple of options 1 being another 49cc pocket bike motor that needs a new pinion gear that runs good would be chain drive. Also have a couple of smaller weedeater motors could do friction with one of those but, I'm leaning toward the pocket bike engine. I've had great dependability out of the other one I've been using.

Well as I found out this weekend. One of the guys I go to church with purchased me an 80cc kit for my bike. Yeah me!! So as soon as the kit arrives I'll be putting it together and posting pics. Unfortunatly I have no idea which kit he bought or who from. That leaves the other motor up for another project?????

The old Raleigh's had lug frames and I see yours does too. Usually made for a strong frame,
just make sure they're not badly rusted from the inside out. A little rust is not a problem and when you strip them down for rebuild it's good to use a rust inhibitor in the inside of the frame tubes. These are sold commercially but expensive, I use mineral spirits/30 wt motor oil 5:1 in a spray bottle.

Well mechanical cleaning is the best. Metal conditioner is the way to go for areas inside that you cant get at! I'm looking into using "the works" toilet bowl cleaner for this purpose. Sound advice to check frames from the inside out!

If you mess arround w/ the works, careful, it's nasty stuff!

How is the toilet bowl cleaner going to help?

The Works Toilet Bowl Cleaner contains acids. I have not used it yet but have heard guys on the internet say it eats rust??? You treat your area w/metal conditioner (try The Works) and then finish up with wd-40 or paint...

A 50/50 mixture of vinegar and lemon juice eats rust very well, and quickly too. It also degreases the part for painting.
I use it all the time to clean old specialty hardware, inside rusty fuel tanks, break loose rust seized pistons, hinges, bearings, ect. You do not really need to worry much about it eating away at the origional base metal. It will do so, but you would have to leave the part in the solution for weeks on end for it to do any appreciable damage.
The best part is it is biodegradable. You can flush it down the toilet when you are done. It is waaaaay less harsh than any drain cleaner or toilet bowl cleaner.
For treating rust inside a frame tube, why not use Jasco metal prep?
Is is used in the marine industry for treating ship's hulls, ect before painting.
It converts rust into iron phosphate, a good rust proof coating. Any exposed clean metal gets converted as well, just not as thick of a coating as there is no rust previously there to convert.

The Kit Has Arrived!!!!

I got home from work today finished supper and heard a knock on the door. It was my friend with my new engine kit. I'm attaching some pics below. Has anyone ever heard or know of the realibity of a raw engine? It sounds familiar to me but, I can't place it.
