Not a bad idea chris.
I drilled & tapped the opposide side of the sprocket & bolted it from that side aswell.....safety in numbers.

I drilled a dimple into the shaft and lined up the sprocket so the set screw (actually bolt) drove into the dimple. Then cranked hard on the set screw.

It shouldn't be up to us to fix design shortcomings,but no-one here seems to like the alternative.
 
Well, I consider this basic machining that most everyone can do. It has to be custom made to fit the bike.
