Camping w/friends in a rain storm, I started a fire with a handful of Dorito's. Give it a try. So long as they are dry, they really go once you get them started. I bet chips would work well also.

That vid is similar to the technology used in the waste oil forge you posted AG!

Marty, when I was a Boy Sprout (long ago), I made a fire starter by taking a 1/2 pint paint can, tearing newspaper strips just wide enough to fit in it on edge and filling it with rolled newspaper. Then I poured bacon grease into it until it just wouldn't absorb anymore. Put a long bali on it, set it in the fire ring, stand twigs and small wood up around it, toss in a wooden kitchen match.

Once the fir was going good, I'd fish it out, put the lid on it to extinguish it, and when it cooled off put it back in the bread sack I packed it in. It worked great, smelled wonderful.

When I was younger, don't want to go into great detail because I'm sure you guy's already know what to use for the guts... I used to make smoke bombs (using the stard formula)... We'd cut two horizontal slits on opposite sides of a pop can and bend in the bottoms slightly (like gills)... Fill your can 1/2 way or else it will spill out when heating, let cool and put a generous ammount of match heads on top to get it going! Something about the shape of the can really let them get going good!
