hi slackbiker...i'd be interested in seeing some larger pics and hearing about your travels

well, heck yeah, buddy!

i myself am going to jump off in the spring for some serious touring, there's a thread about it in this traveling section, and see my site (in my signature) for more info & pics.

i know it's all casual with no actual goals or plan, but how many miles is a good day for you? do you camp or use motels? i guess "camp"...

stories, adventures, tips, etc?

Thanx much for the posting info from loquin and Happy Valley (yes, friction drive, for easy maintenance and less weight on the road)

Yes, exactly; "all casual with no actual goals or plans". I also use mass transit and can break down my rig and even load it on a bus bike rack. Zero miles is a real good day (lol), hanging at a hotspring or "cool" town. More seriously 40 miles is a real nice average, using the motor assist for zero miles on a fairly level/downhill tailwind day, to 25 miles on a mountain pass/headwind day. 95 miles is my max, even with a motor its a long day in the saddle. Almost always camp, almost always free camp, the motor really helps me zip out of town in the evening to sweet spots out of Santa Fe, Taos, Durango, Silver City (this year), or the above plus Boulder, Laramie, Lander, Ketchem, and numerous other places in Co, WY, Idaho, Nevada, and Cali (last year).

Thanx for all the pictures in your signature. It is nice to see another tour bicyclist. So far in 2 summers (from early april to Mid-October) i haven't seen another motorized tour bike, though i've heard of a few. Many places people are stunned by my rig, have skidded their vehicles into the shoulder, have pulled over their tour buses, drawn small crowds (even in Boulder last year), and have been chased down the street. My rig has paid for itself in free beer, food and other kickdowns. Have you seen other motorized tour bikes?

Cross-winds not a big deal, bike is fairly heavy overall, and the Tall Stuff was light (backpacker guitar, umbrella), and i ditched it eventually.

i haven't yet randomly encountered another MB-tourist on the road, but i know a couple guys thru MBc who have a few miles on the books...

uncle_punk13 did a wyman-tribute: http://www.motoredbikes.com/showthread.php?t=4217

and thescooterguy made a run for shriner's charity: http://www.motoredbikes.com/showthread.php?t=22193

it's been very inspiring to meet & ride with these guys, as it is to have you come along & chime in...i do know, from packing/hitching the 70's/80's, that perks abound on the road, and the bike itself is such an ice-breaker, eh?

if you haven't met the ultimate MB-tourist around here, look up bamabikeguy's posts, that guy's got miles! http://www.motoredbikes.com/showthread.php?t=3754
