So I got the HT mounted over the weekend, and put the clutch cable on. However, when I pull the lever, the clutch doesn't disengage. It still wants to turn with the crankshaft. (Yes, the clutch lever is being pulled far enough.)

I pulled the clutch cover off the right side, and when I pull the clutch lever, I can see the disc back off of the big gear a little, but it still doesn't turn free. I noticed that there's a little silver screw in there, kind of close to the center of the disc. Is that some shipping screw that needs to come out? Is that screw holding the disc and gear together?

If not, then what?

So I need to remove that lock screw, loosen the star nut to loosen the clutch, put the lock screw back in?

Yes. Usually you don't have to turn too much, 1-2 notches is all it takes.

You may have to re-adjust (tighten) the clutch after break-in of the engine, the clutch will wear/settle and it may begin to slip a bit (bad for the pads).

Also, while you are in there you may want to take off the clutch plate and grease the "ball race" (do a quick search, there is a recent thread about it), as these come "dry" from the factory. Greasing it up will quiet things down when the clutch lever is pulled in.

Looks like it was just stuck from sitting in a warehouse. I took the clutch plate off and had to turn the countershaft with the spark plug wrench, and it snapped free.

Common problem....with luck u shouldn't have any more problems with your clutch(in theory)
