Picture those "bar ends" that you'll find on mountain bikes. (and others, I suppose)
Those make a fine mirror mount.

You simply drill through it, front to back. I used a couple of motorcycle mirrors, about 3" round. You pass the bolt from a seat post clamp through the hole you drilled and the flanges from the clamp will hold on to the mirrors arm.

I mounted the bar ends just inside my grips and levers. The bar end gets everything above your hands and the mirrors arm can be tilted so that the mirror sits outside of your wrists.

You'll need the actual mirrors, of course. But stainless steel bicycle mirrors can be found online. And I imagine motorcycle mirrors could be found at a garage/motorcycle junkyard.

I love my Blackburn bar end mirror. It's got a very clear convex mirror and attaches without tools to the very end of your handlebar so it doesn't take up any valuable bar space. Very adjustable too and folds in easily for storage or off roading. It looks great on a mountain bike, don't know how it would look on a beach cruiser though.

I'm planning to use an ATV style clamp on mirror

It has an angled stalk about 6" tall, a wide rectangular mirror, and heavy duty bracket. I expect it can withstand lots of vibration/shock.

$20 from Walmart. I can't find a photo/link, but it was in Automotive/sporting goods by the motorcycle helmets and ATV gear.

edit: Its same brand and similar to this

Thanks bamabikeguy, just bought 2 from eBay - one for each bike.
P.S. The link is dead.

... Steve

I've gotten into the habit of swinging the mirror in each night, in case the wind blows over the end bike, starts a chain reaction. The small allens head for tightening it are on my keychain.
