G'day all

As some of you may know, i have a SickBikeParts Jackshaft Shifter Kit installed on my bike to great success - to be truthful, a single speed drive system is a waste of time.

One thing that has been bugging me though, since installing the kit, is the issue of maintaining an appropriate level of chain tension from the output shaft to the chainwheels as it stretches.
For the most part, it's not a problem, especially for those using their bike as recreational enjoyment.

I on the other hand use my bike as a sole means of transport and need reliability and functionality to be as good as it can be; travelling up to 100 kilometers per day (approx 60 miles) witrh trailer attached necessitates absolute reliabilty and ease of use.

Messing around with adjusting the chain tension is something i "need" to eliminate, something you don't want to or have to think about, especially when travelling daily long distance commutes.

Necessity is the mother of all invention and in so saying, i'm posting my solution (so far proven to be reliable) for an automatic chain tension system, that "works".

A picture tells a thousand words.

Cheers Fabian

Hi Skyliner70cc

As a one-off product it may not be worth the cost i would charge building the tensioner - the reason why i posted the pics so anyone who wants to make the same style device can easily copy it.

Having said that, if there is enough demand for the tensioner, i could do a cost analysis for an initial batch run and if the cost is favourable and works out to be reasonable for general purchase, manufacturing could be commenced with an estimated date for door to door delivery.

I would need pre payment for the purchase of materials, construction and postage/shipping charges.

If demand meets manufacturing criteria, i would want to approach the manufacturer of the Shift Kit to have it trialed or appraised by their engineering department; making sure it complies with the safe and reliable operation of their Jackshaft system, if the manufacturer is so willing to take part in a product test trial to appraise it's compatability with their item.

I am confident it would pass their safe operating requirements.

Kind regards

Fabian

great work

Good work here.
I can't wait to explore the options with you.

Nice work!!! well done man. I couldn't help but notice your running a chrome muffler, you've got to try a expansion pipe, seriously worth the money.

Like anything, necessity is the mother of all invention.

I wanted to design something simple and easy to retrofit to the existing SickBikeParts jackshaft system without modifing their design, and also something that would be easy for others on motored bikes to copy and reproduce.

Well done...KUDOS to you. 1st...installing what you made (tensioner bracket), does it mount on ANY part of the bike itself...and 2.. throw something funny out...do you really feel that a HT is reliable?...I myself haven't had any problems with my build (might be what I did to it as far as hardware) but I don't put anywhere the miles on mine.

If you look closely at the photos of the tensioner mounted on the bike, you will see that it attaches onto the U-bolt, normally used to fasten the SickBikeParts shift kit to the bicycle frame.
