finally took the e-plunge

if you weigh 240 stay away from electric I am in Dallas Tx not many hills here. happycheapskate rode it and he liked it but he weighs a lot less than me.

That is absurd statement, because you fry a motor you assume electric is no good. There are plenty of overweight people on Endless Sphere using electric, different is they use correct setups. Of course you wouldn't get 20 mile from sla pushing your 250 pound person and bike only people with little knowledge still use sla they are the worst battery chemistry to use. Cost, lifepo4 works out much cheaper, sla good for 400 maybe 500 charge lithium good for 2000 you do math. If you want to climb hill or pull weight use geared hub motor not direct drive or use higher volt hub motor no good on 48v if you need torque. If you did research you would know this instead you bought wrong motor for job and shocked when it burns out.

I know sla batteries are not the caddilac type but I would think 800 watts being 50 over what is legal should have done better on the hills. I never claimed to be an expert I intend to buy a scooter once I get a job I was planning on using this thing only short term on sla. The thing had plenty of torq on level ground just very short range. I happened to run into a big guy at the store the other day he had the same story it fried on him in short order. So yea the ebike hub motor is carp IMO for anyone as muscularly built as me.

SLA is cheap, but heavy. A good entry level product, but not so good over the long haul of time.

The real issue is that hub motors are single speed motors. While on perfectly flat land a hub motor could be fine (like if you wanted to race it) you run into problems the moment you deal with hills.

The better answer is to drop hub motors in favor of chain driven motors like the Cyclone so that you can make use of granny gears for the hills.

Electric motors have a NARROW ideal powerband which is pretty high up in the rpm range. (about 75% of full speed) Just like in a car you need to shift gears if you want to get good performance.

The exception to all this is more power... more power actually allows you to "grunt" your way up into the higher rpms and that means the motor runs cooler.

Try a Cyclone next time and always run in the lowest gear possible so as to not overheat and you will be fine...

Thanks for the constructive advice. I have a 250 watt curry motor I intend to wire straight to a push button switch to just bump it a bit not to run constantly unless I am on flat ground does anyone see a problem with this setup? I intend to mount it on a bike frame minus the front fork as a push type trailer utilizing the gears of the back wheel thereby distributing the weight of the batteries to the old steel mountain bike frame. It will have 4-12 volt batteries left over from the hub motor (can I have a moment of silence for the deceased) wired in series-parallel 24 volt patern. I want to peddle assist I do have a few pounds left to loose. I also have a schwinn trailer to hook to the end to haul groceries ect. (I do have a CDL with doubles and triples endorsement LOL)

I had ordered a cheap 2 stroke 1000 watt 12 volt generator to increase distance on the hub motor and use off grid to charge batteries hooked to inverter / UPS to power my laptop ect. I snagged it for like $159 shipped. The Oreiley's took the 2 lawn tractor batteries back NP that was $80. Be really cool if the Dax 32cc could mount to the generator or the Mac weed wacker motor I have as a spare.

ebike update parts list

This build in addition to the below list also now has a friction drive on the way from statoninc just over $200 shipped. None of the gear drive sprocket or mounting plate work with this engine...well not unless you want to try to reinvent the wheel LOL. I looked everywhere on Dax site before I made my list the 4 stroke instructions don't say anything plus or minus about the 32cc. I ordered what the 4 stroke kit looked like it used. I am going to take Duane's advice and enjoy my ride and forget the $50 bucks plus in useless parts.

Some of the parts are for an old HT 2 smoker kit I still have and I wanted to play with different tooth sprockets to see which I like the best...I figured if I go with the 36 and use the electric for low end speed the thing is gonna go pretty fast once I kick the gas in and get great mpg too.
