I read posts where people diss frame mounts and call frame mounted engine owners motorcycle wannabee's.Well,I would rather be a wannabe than a geeky mad scientist:whistle:...I am just kidding people.I understand rear mounted engines are more higher quality than the general 2 stroke frame mount ht motor. But,It's unfair to compare a crudely designed stock ht chinagirl to a 600 dollar rear mount motor and then justify why rear mounts like gebe and stanton are better than a h.t. set up. Kinda like comparing a thong and bikini contest between Jessica alba and rosie o'donnell.Take a look at ezmotorbike, thatsdax In frame titan, and a custom morini engine or rebuilt and machined h.t. then make comparisons.I am partial to frame mount for 3 reasons.First,It's balanced better,Second,With the traveling I do with a trailer and rack. The rear mounts don't allow for this option.Third,Looks way better and does not slip In rain or wet weather. And for those who say frame mounts are wanna be motorcycles.News Flash!!!!!Mopeds and motorized bicycles were made before motorcycles and the really old harley's and triumphs had pedals.Ride what you want and be happy and prosper. But as for me and my house. We shall ride frame mounts. But,I admit.dual suspension bikes and certain styles leave you with the rear mount only.

I went with the rack mount because I wanted a quiet, reliable, and inconspicuous setup. You pay for quality once....you pay for garbage each time you use it. I'm not saying the frame mount kits are all garbage....just not something that I had the time or inclination to fight with constantly. It's quiet, reliable, and definitely inconspicuous as expected. It is a little top heavy, but ONLY when you are at a complete stop - once you are moving you don't even notice it (even if you are just pedaling at 5 mph). Oh, and it's chain drive so it doesn't "slip in the rain" as you mentioned....not all rack mount kits are friction drive. To each his own though....I think the frame mount kits LOOK cooler for sure....just not something that I wanted to mess around with.

When I first saw the ht kit on a bike at my son's house, I was totally captured with the idea and the look. Spending time here, I find out that reliabilty an longevity is an issue.
You have no choice but to compare different modes of getting the job done.

Personally I consider all the modern art to be amatureish at best and garbage at worst. But there is a whole Albright-Knox museum full of the stuff here in the city. It's in the eye of the beholder.

Uhm!!! O.K. Dude.Number one reason of failure of h.t.'s Is overreving and poor oil choice. Now run It within It's means you got a decent ride. And If you get a morini or ezm 4 stroke kit You got something a lil" more reliable. You ever find gilligan yet?

Well,They make things rear mount cuz It's easier to mount for sure but also way cheaper to produce.Dude,You talk about paying for quality once and pay everytime you run a h.t..Well,Let's just say I do have 2 complete cylinder kits and piston kits all for under 100 bucks. And Me knowing I got a 175 dollar grubee gt 5 I know their limits and found If you don't run them full throttle 24-7 and use quality synthetic or castor oil blend. You can get 1000 miles outta one.Not bad for a cheap kit. But,Most people who get them are like I used to be. run them Into the ground and mounted wrong which causes premature failure.Just saying that In order to make a fair comparison between 2 and four strokes. You gotta have motors that were designed well. Not a tanaka or honda 4 stroke a 600 dollar on up motor against a cheap made 100 buck raw motor. Not disrespecting anyone's riding preference.Just saying get a quality motor for frame mount like ezm or morini Then make a comparison.I just want to see some In frame technology advance for us who like frame mount. And I am not gonna be forced to buy a rear mount cuz It's being marketed and shoved down my throat. My style of riding prohibits It.Let's just say I am saving up and buying a morini. And I will challenge reliability Issues with anyone or any business on here. And btw.I do have a rear mount engine For a dual suspension bike. Not against these.Just saying It's unfair to compare these to cheap h.t. engines.Maybe the market will get better on ht quality.

I have to agree with you. plus, i hate the look of the rack mounted / rear mounted engines.

If it wasn't for the China HT, I wouldn't of built a motorized bike to start with. My son had a low paying job and with no drivers license for the past 14 years, his mode of transportation was a bicycle. He, plus myself hated to see him peddle the 3 mile round trip with a bad knee day in and day out. Although he did peddle a bike from Orlando to Atlanta in 11 days with 2 full day stops. Well the less then a $200.00 investment was well worth it. It has served his purpose (has a DL now) quite well, thus causing me to build my own. We now use the MB's as a time together project and take rides together, don't get me wrong, I'd rather jump in my Dodge truck, but the times on these bikes are fun. I pay particular attention to mounting, use GOOD synthetic oil, and don't ride them to death. Of the two we now ride (for the past year) We have had absolutely no maintenance involved, although we do check the tightness of the hardware. I also like the looks of a frame mounted engine better, I guess along with cost, the looks sold me.

I wasn't comparing a rack mount to a frame mount....just giving my reasons for going with the kit that I did. Any by the way, mine is a 2 stroke engine (Mitsubishi TLE 43 - under $300 when I built my bike). If you think getting 1000 miles out of an engine is acceptable, that's fine. I know that the good quality Japanese engines are rated at 600 hours, so even at a modest 20mph speed, that works out to 12,000 miles. Many go way more than that. If you like the frame mounted engines, then build those....I have nothing against them, believe me. I just don't have time to be doing constant maintenance and tweaking to my bicycle....have too many other things that require my time and attention. Peace.

Warner where did you buy a mits 43 kit for under $300? Thats a fantastic price.

I bought the entire kit from Staton.....I could be misquoting the engine price...it was around $300....but I thought it was a little under $300. Maybe it was a few buck over $300....but very close to that price. That was NOT the price for the whole KIT.....JUST the engine.
