5.5hp engine on chopper bike

Here is my project I have been working on for awhile now.

Left to do is a custom exhaust, back sprocket, throttle and brake, also paint some pieces of the bike.

In order to get the engine to fit I had to completely delete the bottom bar and drop it down 2 inches so the engine could clear(shown in the picture)

I ordered the 14in apehangers from uschoppers.

the gas tank is a nos energy drink bottle,(it actually works) but I don't know if it will be my permanent setup.

Looks good!
Good looking welds, did you do the welding your self?
Seems to me that 5.5 is much more than that bike needs. If you gear it low, it will be very impressive. Although you will be replacing tires.
That bike (without suspension) is only really good up to 30MPH very unstable after that.
Keep up the good work.

i didnt know about the 30mph limit, can you tell me more about it, before i get too far into my build?

5.5 hp

Just remember this is just my opinion! However it is based on a lot of miles on s-ray occ's. My single speed tops out at 35mph. The 5 speed will go faster. 35 is fun on a SMOOTH rolling twisting road.
However small sharp bumps take the fun out of it, as keeping it upright becomes my prime concern. I believe suspension would be a great help.

You have gone too far to throw in the towel now! Finish it and see what you have. You might check with other OCC guys also, there is a lot of them on this board.

nice bike...

correct me if I am wrong but... isnt that a small illegal motorcycle???

I'm new to this too, but I keep reading that a "motorized bicycle" has to retain pedal-power capability to keep its "MB" status...

if you can't pedal it, then it becomes at least a "scooter"... and that's a whole different set of rules and regulations

Stephen115: Please do a LOT of reading on here. So far you probably have a couple of things going wrong that can run you into trouble with the law.

1. The engine is too big for a bicycle
2. Too much power to be considered a bicycle
3. Top speed would be over the limit set for motor assisted bikes

Consider using a real gas tank also. My hats off to you though for what you have done. You could always continue building it and only use it on private property. If you did that you could go wild!
