I wanted to hop up my skyhawk and I'm looking to find out where to start, and maybe go from there.like which mod to do 1st then 2nd and so on maybe a top 10 or top 5, any help would be appreciative
Everyone has differing opinions.
Here's mine:
1. Replace all factory hardware with SPB hardware kit.
2. SBP Expansion chamber
3. Notch the piston.
4. Match port intake and exhaust manifolds and clean up manufacturing flaws in ports.
5. Quality spark plug wire. (assuming you all ready have a quality spark plug)
6. Lap the head gasket surfaces true on the cylinder and head.
7. Replace all factory bearings with quality ones. (A replacement roller bearing for the big end bearing has not been found yet as far as I know)
When the piston is at top dead centre, it still partly covers the inlet port. By filing off the offending part of the piston skirt, efficiency is improved.
A search might turn up a bit more info. I vaguely remember seeing a pic somewhere. Forgot to take any when I did mine.
In effect, remove the intake tube, turn the motor until the piston is at TDC, then mark the part of the piston that is visible partly covering the opening. Disassemble and file or Dremel off the marked portion. Smooth the file marks and reassemble, ensuring that you have a good seal between the carb and intake tube. Done.
