Is this a suitable bike?

Just happened to find this bike on CL.

I was wondering if anyone here could identify the frame and let me know if this is a decent buy.

I know VERY little about bikes, and I'm looking into my first build.

I hope to talk the guy down on price, unless the bike is worth the $125

Nice looking bike, but if you are going the HT 2 stroke in-frame engine route, I doubt that you can make it fit. The double lower frame tubes reduce the available space for the engine far too much, from the pictures.

Good candidate for a friction drive, or a GEBE set-up, or even an HT if you are willing to build a rack mount for one (see: http://www.motoredbikes.com/showthread.php?t=29643 ) like ace1 did. A Staton gearbox and mitsu engine as a rack mount would work just fine, as well.

It might be a Worksman, but if you compare the two frames carefully you'll see a number of differences. The downtube from the stem on the CL bike is curved in an S, whereas on the Worksman you posted, the attachment at the stem shows a straight tube. Also, the rear drop outs are angled differently, and on the worksman there is a shorter distance on the upper members of the rear triangle from the seat post than on the CL bike. It also looks to me that the rake on the seat tube of the Worksman is about 5 degrees greater.

There is also a front fork brace on the CL bike, but none on the Worksman.

Don't get me wrong - I may well be completely incorrect. Best thing to do is to make a triangle engine spacer cutout from cardboard, and see if it fits. If it does, then he's good to go.

anything is possible if you have the skills and the will to make it work.
get a little creative and figure out how to make an engine fit in that frame.

if the motor fits, I would use that frame. It might not be a Worksman like I originally thought, but if you want to spend the extra cash, Pirate Cycles has "in frame" tanks for that style frame for $300
